Anyone know of any that aren't too scary?
Anyone know of any that aren't too scary?
Not in Thailand I don't believe,
I went to a lady in a little junky shop after had broken my really old upper plate in Vientaine a few years ago, she made me a new one and a partial for a good price, but one hook was to tight and ruined the enamel on an anchor tooth. I went to the HISO that was doing the orthodontist on the kids crooked teeth, he pulled the bad tooth, made a new partial and while he was in there I had a new upper made.
The partial fit perfect and the plate was not really right but anyway he put some poligrip or what ever powder in right there in the shop, was fine til the powder washed out then i couldn't keep em in my mouth, the lady made another to fit with the partial,,
Then I dropped the damn partial on the tile and busted it, went to a Dentist in the hospital here, he made new both, and when he put the plate in it was covered in powder, and so you know what happen when i washed em, any Dentist that makes new dentures and powders then to keep em in your mouth when new is no foking dentist. And the damn teeth are in a plastic bag with some water down stairs and have been there for 6 months,,10k baht shot in the ass.
And they do not sell that poligrip here, told me at the Pharma that it is for dentists only and they do not sell it in this country..
And my friend who is a denturist in Oregon would kick my ass if he ever heard of me ever using powder, he makes teeth to last and fit, it was his plate that I broke eating a French roll sandwich at Swedish bakery in Vientaine and it was 15 years old and the teeth still good.
Damn near worth flying back home to have new teeth made..
^sounds like a nightmare.
I know of excellent dentists here in Phuket.
One of my pals just arrived in Pattaya complaining of a toothache.
I figured with good dentists here in Phuket there must be a few in Pattaya.
Been to so many 'good' dentists in my time that I have few teeth left for the next one to practice on.
If it is just pulling a tooth, I guess that anyone could do it, But for good dentistry I think that Thailand fits the same notch as Good Medical care,,
I just do not believe that all doctors are created equal and there are some that are good and some that you pay damn near the same price..
Kinda like a street craps shoot, ya just never know.
Like the medical treatment recommendations in Mexico, "anything that is past treatment with a band aid should never be done in Mexico, but should be transported north of the border"
^ Mexico is a bit dicy, but ime here I've gotten excellent medical care.
Mexico doesn't have anything like Bumrumgrad.
Bangkok Pattaya Hospital is highly recommended but damn expensive.
OK,, but you should be able to get competent medical care where ever you are, not just a a damn few hospitals in any country.
I was in a nasty car wreck in New Mexico about 10 years ago. I was in the hospital a week with them trying to do physical therapy on me before they finally diagnosed a cracked vertebrae.
Then they figured it might be a good idea to stop the "physical therapy"!
The magnitude of the incompetence was staggering.
When they wanted money over and above what the insurance paid I told them they would be lucky if I didn't sue them.
USA medical care.
There are two places I recommend and have met the staff at both. Pattaya International-Dr Aree, and the newer place on the hill leading down to Jomtien. Next to Pattaya Properties on the left. Dental Cafe I believe.
I never tell them that I am a doc at first and check out their business and way of doing things in general.
Pattaya International has sedation available so if you are a dental phobic, I would go there. The other has a coffee shoppe setting, intenet and a large staff of female doc's. The boss is male, but all his specialists are female.
Took the TGF in there and got her squared away and she was afraid also. At the end of the exam I asked to see what they wanted to do and it wasn't off the wall. Then I told them I was also in the profession and "suggested" a slightly diffent approach and they were fine with it. Now she is a regular flosser and even has the family flossing up in Isaan.
Hope that helps some. Thailand is a deal for dental care. I always thought of practicing there but they canked the idea of allowing the tests be taken in English so no go on that. Also, the fees suck so it would be hard to make the same amount of money I make now working for uncle sam.

Have used Dr Aree at Pattaya International a few times. First class and very relaxing. I normally send her an email for an appointment (you can get this from the hospital website) and then she keep me right with what else needs done. I now have all my dental work done there....what I save on UK prices pays for my trip.
Mate of mine needed some dental work and he was chatting with a pal about it. His pal made a call and 20 minutes later in walked the dentist and proceeded to grind away me mates dodgy tooth with a black and decker drill with a grinding bit in it!
A ceramic tooth was cemented in place and the finish things looks pretty good. 2500 baht changed hands.
The mad thing about it is that all this happened in the pub. They were on the lash at the time
In the Dental World you typically get what you pay for..
The crown or "cap" which isn't fitted with good margins usually leaks and rots from under the crown.
Welcome to your extraction.

Hey no worries, always go in first for the exam only or exam with cleaning. Then you can research the advice. I recommend it for those I work on as well. Of course since I'm the only dentist on the ship they will have a hard time finding another provider, ha!
At any rate, feel free to ask me on anything before you dive in. Advice is free, only takes the time to ask.
Good luck!

Upper front 6-bridge broke and of course fell on tiles with precise force and angle to crack it beyond repair but that's painfree, then mrs decided it's time to stop arsing around and do the lot once 'n for all, which means 2-4 / 3-4 implants (up / down) and a bunch of other stuff and lots of pain...never been a brave one with dentists which means ended up in the chair only when it couldn't be put off any longer...not looking forward to the trauma or the bill. Btw he's in Germany till 18th so 19th will see me in the hotseat.
Why did the bridge come off? Just deluted? If it was a metal base and the porcelain broke off it can be redone. You throw it in the kiln and then the water, all the glass comes off, then they rebake new porcelain.
If the abutments are still patent, ie, no decay as to the reason why it came off, then it can be recemented. Sometimes there is a post and core which fails then the whole bridge loosens over time. Leaks and gets recurrent decay under it. The old nice painted fence post, but rotten in the ground deal.
Implants are to be done by a specialist for sure. Ask to see previous cases and certification on it. I know of dentists taking a weekend course and doing implants. Not good.
The implants are placed with local anesthesia, so should be painless. Pressure and vibration and noise. I have seen it done with IV sedation also.
Another very important factor is the thickness of the ridge they will put the implants in. The panogragh will show 2 dimensions only so you can see if you have clearance to the sinus. BUT, there is the thickness of bone as you look down upon the ridge, mirror look. The anterior areas are shaped like an hour glass. If they are not careful they can perforate that ridge of bone with the implant. Then the chance of success is way down. Sometimes they need to bone graft the area first. Wait 3-6 months then do the implants. Ask the questions. Nothing worse than a failure on a implant connected to a bridge.
Good luck
Thanks a heap for that lot, can't make too much sense of it but running through it several times and yes you seem to have spotted what happened...also, there is a sinus problem which I know about, so it remains to be seen whether he brings it up, in the right vein, and also with the solution, as of a year ago, which I'm not keen on.
If he says no plobremo I'm bolting for that door.
Update: Am told it's no plobremo but he has a good bedside manner so stayed to hear him out, and now sleeping on a 250k quote for no implants but telescopic thingies up and down, which will have me end up with 28 teeth resting on my 4 strong ones up and 6 down, with 2/3 up/down not strong and likely to cause plobrems soon so recommended to oblivion. It seems the aforementioned bridge will either be ditched or hidden beneath the telescopic thingy.
Elsewhere was quoted 440k and 420k for basically the same, another 3 upper implants + work that'll create 6 more good teeth (10-11 in all), and 2 implants + work lower that'll give me 12-13 in all, with the upper bridge repaired and part of the package.
Erm, ah, he has an onsite lab and did say materials used are good quality, for what that's worth, start to finish in 10-12 days, with cost based on cash and no receipts, which is fine assuming there's a genuine guarantee in there somewhere.
Anything else I should be asking?
I only clean my teeth twice perday, I think at those prices I shall take more care of them.
Do that, can be expensive otherwise. As a kid in London's lowtech and painful 50s I learned early on that nodoby with a brain goes up those stairs unless the pain is too much to bear, by which time it was usually too late to do more than patch them up to stave off the inevitable...then 30 years later cause and effect came into play as they started abandoning my mouth in droves.
Lessons learned though, my kids have impeccable teeth and don't even know dentists are designed to inflict pain, so I guess my life hasn't been a total waste.
Thinking about visiting a dentist in Pattaya. This thread is a bit old, are the recommendations still Bangkok Pattaya Hospital if you don't mind a hefty bill and Pattaya International or Dental Cafe if you want a less pricey alternative?
