now that some of you have joost, what do you think of it?
now that some of you have joost, what do you think of it?
Where's mine then ?
It's crap... in a can.
havent tried it out yet!
Still waiting for my user name and password to work. I haven't got an email back from them yet, so I suppose that's when it'll start.
I got a 512 ADSL connection but it doesn't keep up with it.
Will try again later.
Picture quality is OK
Programme quality looks like it might be a bit rough.
Thanks very much for that Flash.
Gosh, really?
OK, I tried again, failed, went through the lost password procedure, which told me my username and email address didn't match, so I tried to log in again and it worked. So there's something wrong there and it ain't me!
I got a clip of a sci-fi program coming down at about 1 mbps - completely using up my bandwidth, so that's not good. I then tried other channels and nothing else came down.
I'd like to try it with a smaller screen to see if that reduces the bandwidth used, but at the moment all channel, all programmes say "Coming soon".
Still, I probably won't need it until the next World Cup, so thanks Flash, much appreciated.
still no email, I hope the anti-spammer didn't nuke it
^
Don't worry RDN.
Not surprisingly mine failed too.
I can't for the life of me get through this password process.
^ that doesnt really surprise me actually!
i beat you to it.Originally Posted by kingwillyhggtb

I sympathise totally. Something's not quite right! And it isn't you or me, this time
I didn't get any email back from them, just tried to log in again and it worked.
I just restarted the program, it went straight in - no need to log in - and all the programmes are working! I like the "Model profiles" clips...
Now, if only we could adjust the quality to leave some of the 1 mbps bandwidth free for other stuff...
Download speed is ok, actual program selection and quality is so so to put it politely.. I ended up watching Sci Fi and that's pretty sad. That said there's more tere than any other internet TV I've tried.
It's still just the startup stage, so naturally some content providers will be cautious. If it really takes off, expect more variety...
...of crap ... in a can.
What is it? It sounds fucking crap.
No point in sending Scampie an invite then....
^Joost (pronounced 'juiced') is a system for distributing TV shows and other forms of video over the Web using peer-to-peer TV technology, created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis (founders of Skype and Kazaa).
Joost began development in 2006. Working under the code name "The Venice Project," Zennström and Friis have assembled teams of some 150 software developers in about a half-dozen cities around the world, including New York, London, Leiden and Toulouse. Joost's CTO is Dirk-Willem van Gulik.[1]
The teams are currently in negotiations with FOX networks. It has signed up with Warner Music, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions (Indianapolis 500, IndyCar Series) and production company Endemol for the beta.[2] In February 2007, Viacom entered into a deal with the company to distribute content from its media properties, including MTV Networks, BET and film studio
Paramount Pictures.
The program is based on P2PTV technology and is expected to deliver (relaying) near-TV resolution images. It turns a PC into an instant on-demand TV without any need for additional set top box. News updates, discussion forums, show ratings, and multi-user chat sessions (often linked to the active stream/channel) are made possible through the use of semi-transparent widget overlays.
The current version of the software is based on XULRunner and the audio management re-uses the ZAP Media Kit. The peer to peer layer comes from the Joltid company, which also provided the peer to peer layer of Skype. The video playback utilizes the CoreCodec, CoreAVC H.264 video decoder.

I cannot get connected. It says I am using proxys which I don't do or don't know about. Can it be because of my firewall?
THey just got a lot of financial backing for Joost this week. Do you have a vested interest in this Flash? Are there plans of floating the Joost company?
