after a lot of trying i managed to find a version of windows xp pro on the bittorrent network that actually passed the microsoft genuine whatsoever test and will allow you to get automatic updates.

i have tried it myself and it works fine.

Automatic updates work even if your version is pirated. It's the updates direct from Microsoft's website that won't work (i.e. using IE and going to MS's updates manually).

Anyhoo there's something called Autopatcher that works also.
