Reports of a large firework display adjacent to the motorway being a possible distraction to the travelers.

"The road was particularly busy because of the Bridgwater Carnival and there were also reports of a large fireworks display, potentially distracting drivers."

Seven people are dead. This figure could rise as the wreckage is removed and the accident scene examined more closely. Some of the injured have very serious injuries and the toll could increase.

The motorway was expected to open at 9.0 pm tonight but is now unlikely to open for at least another twenty four hours.

So what started the fireball ?
The burnt out artic in the picture is a Ginsters truck so would only be carrying pasties and pies.
Do trucks use NGV in UK ?

Never seen NGV in the UK,or a CNG either. Few cars are NGV,but not many.

Spot on. Been a while since I've driven in a country that has those sorts of things.

    Awful scenes altogether.

Nasty accident. I used to know a fireman based nr the M62 in N. England that had to go to a lot of similar accident scenes like this, mainly in the Winter and due to fog.. Could not have done his job.

Lorries in the UK all run on diesel ,, sorry the vast majority do ,, a few are running on bio diesel I have no idea if that is like unleaded petrol , in so much as it makes it more flammable .
The lorry I am driving at the moment uses diesel + ad blue which if anything makes it more non flamable,, to be honest as most of you know allready you can throw a lighted fag into a diesel tank and it will just put the fag out.

These accidents in the UK happen on an annual basis as and when the fog appears every year around this time ,,,albeit it,s been a while since there,s been one as bad as this .

Going back to Dec 1984 ( I think ) I was caught up in one very similar on the M25 at 6.00 am in the morning going down the hill just before the A21 junc. in thick fog ,, 9 were killed that day , it was pretty awfull as we were sitting up the bank out of danger and listening to the following vehicles thump into the backs of the ones parked in front.

It,s all been said a thousand times before I,m afraid and unfortunately will probably be muted again next year at a similar time ,,people just will drive too fast for the conditions .

RIP to all involved and condolances to the families
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
