Feudal Veto Over the UK Government

Following a Freedom of Information Request, the Guardian newspaper has revealed that in the past six years the Westminster government has sought the consent of Prince Charles for 12 bills going through Parliament. The bills are understood to relate to legislation covering diverse matters including the London Olympics, economic development, construction and housing, energy, gambling, regeneration and coroners' courts. Without the consent of the Prince, the government would have been forced to alter the legislation.

Prince Charles relies on duchy profits to fund his lifestyle and work, and last year received 18m in profits from the estate. Charles has been granted the right to veto draft bills because they might affect his interests or those of the Duchy of Cornwall in what constitutional experts described as the equivalent of a royal "nuclear deterrent" over public policy. On Monday details emerged of five more bills to which the Prince has been asked to grant consent since 2005, bringing the total over the period to at least 17.

Is this bombshell the best a lost MP can come up with. There are far more important things needing attention than another 600 year old law.

^ That's right, got to get rid of the feky little bit of legislation, it's a public nuisance that doesn't warrant any support.

There ae more important things than that, like growing Scots and Welsh economies.

Scotland and Wales should just be absorbed by britain and have their goverments dissolved.
That would just save a lot of money and headaches.

I have yet to meet an English born individual who gives a flying f*ck whether Scotland or Wales are independent or not.

I bought a couple of 125 year leases on marina pontoon moorings outside my flat back home in UK - the Crown Estate is trying to increase the "ground rent" for a couple of hundred quid a year to nearer 500. Mrs Queen owns the sea bed.

I think you will find that "Crown Estates" doesn't belong to the royal family, its state owned. Thank you for your increased contribution to the nations coffers

    Good to hear.
In fact a recent survey revealed that most Welsh would prefer Wales be assimilated into Britain.

    hmmmmmmm.

    I doubt that too.

who carried out the survey? who were the test group?

I can't see the rational Welsh people wanting to give up free prescriptions and heavily subsidised further education.....and then you've got the other 99% who rabidly hate the English.

Seems strange they'd choose to be assimilated into England then.
Maybe deep down they love the English.

That's the collective attitude towards the English expressed by the rest of UK's populace.

Ripping off of titles, status, land and civil rights throughout history.

Continual denigration of and bias against non Saxon lineages of UK in daily life.

Being treated as inferior by the English for 600 years.

The flooding of valleys to provide water for England.

Exploiting the depressed economic conditions of Wales to buy up land and houses for recreation and holliday, forcing the local populaces to pay rent for sub-standard housing owned by absentee English landlords.

The appointment of an English secretary of state for Wales by Westminster.

The desire of English residents in Wales to change Welsh culture and the establishing of English enclaves in Wales, exclusive of Welsh culture ,"mini-Englands".

The almost successful destruction of the Welsh language through repression in schools (as was the case in NZ re. Maori language) and banning of printing or publishing in England of all books in Welsh.

    That will do for now.

Oh, and pretending to be Brits.

    Bloody wannabees.
