Too late for this poor woman.

French hostage Marie Dedieu dies in Somalia

A French woman kidnapped from Kenya by suspected Somali militants earlier this month has died, say French officials.

Diplomats said they were told of Marie Dedieu's death by contacts through whom they had been negotiating her release.

The exact circumstances of her death are not known, but her poor health and the fact vital medication had been withheld from her meant "this tragic outcome was highly likely", they said.

Ms Dedieu, 66, was one of four Westerners taken from Kenya in October.

How many spare nukes do we have? Can't we come to some agreement with Putin that the really old shitty ones that leak can just be dumped from the appropriate height (don't forget to arm them, oh yes, I've seen Die Hard 2...) onto Somalia (they probably won't work anyway...)?

Grinding poverty combined with a few warlords and loony Islamic fundamentalists preaching to uneducated people will really stuff up a country.
Karen Blixen (Isak Dineson, who wrote "Out Of Africa") had some very good things to say about Somali people. From memory, I think they included comments about their child-like nature and idealism. Fodder which fundamentalist preachers would thrive on....

Well she's dead now, and if this is their trick then get in there and obliterate the worthless, sub-human scum.

PARIS (Reuters) - Kidnappers who seized a wheelchair-bound French woman, who later died in Somalia, are now trying to sell her body, France's defence minister said on Thursday.
Marie Dedieu, 66 and a cancer sufferer, was abducted in the early hours of October 1 from a private house on the island of Manda on Kenya's northern coast.
Dedieu died, probably after her captors failed to give her the daily medication she needed, France said on Wednesday.
"You have to know that the hostage takers are even looking to sell her body ... It is completely disgusting," Defence Minister Gerard Longuet said on i-Tele TV.
"Letting her get blood poisoning, which is what she probably died of, and then trying to sell her body (shows) that these people only deserve contempt," Longuet added.
A wave of kidnappings spurred Kenya to send troops across the border to support government forces in neighbouring Somalia in a risky attempt to secure the frontier and its hinterland.
The abductions have threatened Kenya's multi-million dollar tourism industry.
Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said on Wednesday Paris had been trying to secure Dedieu's freedom and to pass medication to her captors through four different channels, but the kidnappers had not given it to her.
Somali pirates had said she was being held in Somalia. The al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabaab militant group controls large chunks of the lawless country's south and central regions.
Analysts and diplomats in the region have warned that Somali pirates were likely to turn to softer targets, such as tourists in Kenya, in response to more robust defence of merchant vessels.
Longuet said it was unlikely the kidnappers would be caught and face justice. "The most likely is that they will destroy each other because it is a permanent state of civil war, (in Somalia)," he said.
Dedieu was the fourth French citizen to die in 18 months after being taken hostage.
France still has eight nationals held overseas, including a member of its security forces in Somalia, three aid workers in Yemen and four in North Africa's Sahel belt, who will mark their 400th day in captivity on Friday.

Kenya recently invaded Somalia to try and get at the mussies :

Kenyan military moves into Somalia to attack al-Shabaab militants

Kenyan tanks, artillery and hundreds of fighters are moving through militant territory in Somalia, residents said on Monday.

Fighter jets and helicopters have been flying overhead since Kenyan forces moved en masse into Somalia on Sunday. The invasion came one day after Kenyan defence officials said the country has the right to defend itself against al-Shabaab militants after a string of kidnappings inside Kenya. Four Europeans have been abducted and one killed.
Witnesses in the Somali town of Dhobley on Monday said an estimated 40 Kenyan military vehicles entered the town on Sunday. Ali Abdullahi, a resident in Dhobley, said the army vehicles were towing what he described as "big guns."

No large-scale fighting has yet broken out, the residents said.

Late on Sunday evening, a military helicopter crashed and caught fire inside Kenya from an apparent mechanical malfunction, a diplomat and a resident said. No civilian casualties were reported but the status of the pilots on board was not immediately known.

Kenya's government spokesman, Alfred Mutua, said Kenyan troops "are pursuing al-Shabaab across the border." He did not give any other details.

In response, al-Shabaab, Somalia's most dangerous militant group, tried to raise the alarm in areas it controls. Residents in the town of Qoqani who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals said militants were going into homes and forcibly recruiting new fighters.
"Are you ready to live under Christians?" one al-Shabaab official shouted on a militant radio station. "Get out of your homes and defend your dignity and religion. Today is the day to defend against the enemy."
A Somali government spokesman, Abdirahman Omar Osman, said his government welcomes logistical support from "our Kenyan brothers," but said Somalia did not need Kenyan troops.
"Our forces are ready to combat al-Shabaab and they are doing so effectively. They are ready at the borders, so sending troops is not needed," Osman said.
The helicopter crashed in Liboi, a town about 10 miles (20 kilometres) from the Kenya-Somalia border. The Liboi resident asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals. The diplomat's employer does not allow him to be identified.
Mutua and Kenya's military spokesmen did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Kenyan troops have frequently crossed the border into Somalia, but Sunday's push appears to be a bigger and more concerted effort. Minister of Internal Security George Saitoti told a news conference on Saturday that Kenyan forces would pursue al-Shabaab into Somalia.
"For the first time our country is threatened with the most serious level of terrorism," he said.
The public declaration to attack al-Shabab came two days after armed militants kidnapped two Spanish aid workers with the group Medecins Sans Frontieres from the Dadaab refugee camp, a sprawling expanse of temporary homes where almost 500,000 Somalis live. The population of Dadaab, the world's largest refugee camp, has swelled by tens of thousands in recent months because of Somalia's famine.
On Oct. 1, Somali gunmen took a wheelchair-bound Frenchwoman from her home near the resort town of Lamu. Somalis also abducted a British woman from a Kenyan coastal resort in September. Her husband was killed in the attack.
Kenya's push north into Somalia will open another front that Somali militants must contend with. African Union forces from Uganda and Burundi have expanded their control of Mogadishu in recent months and have almost completely forced al-Shabab out of the capital.

And of course , two ' Brits ' want some of the action:

British men arrested in Kenya trying to cross border into Somalia

Two British men were arrested in northern Kenya apparently trying to cross the border into Islamist-controlled Somalia, police said last night.

    By Mike Pflanz, Nairobi

    12:22AM BST 18 Oct 2011

The pair, who are believed to be from Cardiff and are understood to be of south Asian and Somali origin, were stopped by officials in Kiunga, the northernmost town on the Kenyan coast.

"There was reason to believe that the two men, who had British passports, had ulterior motives to be in northern Kenya and to go to Somalia," said Frederick Mwangagi, the chief of police in Kiunga town.

"They were taken for questioning and although I was not present at the interrogation, I know that their answers were not satisfactory and we have arrested them and sent them to Mombasa [the main city on Kenya's coast]." He gave no further details.

The men were with a Kenyan national. It is unclear why they were trying to reach Somalia, but there are regular reports of jihadist sympathisers wanting to join al-Shabaab, Somalia's Islamist rebels.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office in London said that they were "investigating reports of two British nationals being arrested in Kenya . "

It's the bit about France starting a war in Libya which is bollocks.

It was a popular uprising in which the dictator in charge was shelling and butchering people for daring to oppose him.

Whilst turning towns like Misrata into "one of those cities in the old World War 2 flicks".

So you think that was all OK do you?

If you do, you're a fucking idiot.

And there would have been no war in Sirte if there hadn't been Gaddafi Goons fighting there. Ah, but you think they're just poor little innocent civilians who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There may have been war crimes in this whole sorry event, and if the Islamists take over that's doing no-one any favours, but at the end of the day your whole view of it is myopic to the point of absurdity.

No it wasn't, it was a small rebellion on the verge of being crushed until France stepped in recognized the rebels, and got NATO involved. Most of the Libyans supported Brother Gaddafi. Most of the attrocities associated with Gaddafi have been debunked, like the old viagra gang lie.

If you do, you're a fucking idiot.
