How are we supposed to have wars to fight if we don't arm people?
It is called full employment:
1 Make guns
2 Sell guns to us
3 Sell guns to them
4 Get cheap raw materials oil etc
5 Peasants revolt, we need bigger army
6 We need more guns
7 Blow up their country
8 Rebuild their blown up country-selling our stuff
9 New puppet government needs more guns to keep peasants under control.
10 We offer aide ( as long as they buy more of our stuff) with a fair % of interest of course.

There are five Permanent members of the UN Security Council- each holding the power of unilateral veto over UN resolutions.
They are also the five largest Arms dealers in the world, and have been so pretty much since the UN was first convened.
Ah yes, those were the days, if my memory serves me rightly.Originally Posted by Sailing into trouble

Almost correct. Germany is the 3rd largest arms exporter in the world behind the US and Russia and ahead of France, UK and China respectively.Originally Posted by sabang

Same old same old.
Charly boy was the arms dealer for Uk for a while then Andy had a go and stressed out, now it's gonna be Willy then Harry might get a turn.
How much was Phill the Greek involved in it back in the good ol days, any idea?
Seems to be royal perk, this gun running stuff.
I remember Olof Palme attempting to broker a peace deal in Palestine when he got bumped off by Bofors, the Swedish arms manufacturer, they'd lose big time if there was peace.
The chap who was fingered for the deed by the fascist gov. there at the time was innocent, died not too long ago in Sweden the day after the police allegedly beat him up after he'd contacted Moten Palme, Olof's son for a meeting and info.
I think he moved to Canada for a while a few years ago, I could be wrong.
Amnesty Int Sweden was active in his release.
I did see the guy in Gamla Stan having a meal at Pan Cafe back in !989.
He was fatish and a bit surly, but not showing any twitchy behaviour.
He appeared quite ok.

What real industry does the UK have exactly?Originally Posted by nostromo
Quite many sectors. Manufacturing, Services - oh now I see what you are driving at, new EU idea of tax on financial transactions, where all of Europe City of London (being the big one) would lose. UK would lose billions if this goes forward. More than UK would ever get from EU. Moment to think if UK should remain in EU. Thanks for pointing that out.
No, I'm asking you what real industry does the UK have?
Well, if "more than UK would get from EU" sounds ok to you, you are european.
Are they selling IEDs? Those work pretty darn well and they are cheap. Maybe the third world can undercut their prices.
Nostromo,
Your above remark re Olof Palme is total crap.
Your other posts indicate your xenophobic views, so pull your neck in twat.
Are you English by any chance?
If this is how you respond to a simple, civil, and genuine question about UK industry, then you have serious issues.Originally Posted by nostromo
The UK is economically and politically insignificant, they should merge with France and Germany, the only true power of Europe
France has held that view ever since Henry 7, who trashed them for their cheek, collecting the French war chest along with the English war chest in payment for French submission and the avoidance of war.
He brought Britain out of bankruptcy into wealth and made a vast personal fortune which his son Henry 8 was able to turn into use.
Boring king, was Henry 7th, 32 years of peaceful and prosperous rule.
