A woman downed more than a pint of whisky before groping a Virgin Airways steward and demanding sex, it has been alleged.

Katherine Goldberg, 25, who works in education, was on a flight from South Africa to Heathrow last month when she drunkenly assaulted the crew member by grabbing his crotch, Uxbridge magistrates' court heard.

Goldberg was granted bail after her lawyer applied successfully to adjourn the case. He said: "I wish to raise representations in relation to one of the charges, that matters are dealt with by way of a caution rather than continuing with the court proceedings.

"It is a serious allegation but there are good reasons why it would be in the public interest for the Crown to deal with her by way of a caution. I have told the court that admissions were made in interview and if matters are not dealt with by way of a caution there will be a plea of guilty at the next occasion."

Goldberg, of Ealing Common, is charged with one count of sexual assault and another of being drunk in an aircraft.

In the US, if you refer to a flight attendant as a steward or stewardess they get irate and tell you off. I have seen it happen more than once.

Katherine Goldberg could face jail after she was sent to crown court for sentencing after drunkenly groping a male flight attendant.

Katherine Goldberg made ‘strong, sexual advances’ towards the Virgin steward after downing a pint of whisky on her trip from Johannesburg to Heathrow.

Goldberg fondled the steward’s genitals after he had repeatedly turned down her drunken advances.

The 25-year-old, who works in education, admitted sexual assault and being drunk on an aircraft.

Kevin Christie, prosecuting at Uxbridge magistrates’ court, said Goldberg had downed a large volume of whisky – believed to be about 50cl – during her August 24 flight.

He said: ‘The defendant was drunk in mid-air and groped a male member of the cabin crew.

‘She had made strong sexual advances towards the man during the flight.
‘She then groped his groin area and testicular area. It was a mid-air incident but we believe the sentence can be dealt with here.’

But chair of the court Mary Petley declined jurisdiction on both counts and sent the case to the crown court where Goldberg can be more severely punished.

Mrs Petley said: ‘The reason we are declining jurisdiction is that if you were drunk on an aircraft and you were sleeping and snoring a bit, we could sentence you here. But this is rather more serious than that.’

The maximum sentence in the crown court for sexual assault is ten years in prison.

Goldberg, of Ealing Common, west London, was released on unconditional bail and is due to be sentenced at Isleworth crown court on next month.

Her lawyer had argued at an earlier hearing that the matter could be dealt with by a caution.

Why the fuck would they serve her that much?

She should have got a decent lawyer who could have threatened to counter-sue Virgin for failing to take proper care of their passengers.

Case would soon ahve been dropped.

That's the last time i sleep on an aircraft. Clearly one the most serious summary offences to hit a magistrates court in recent years. Snoring whilst in charge of a gin and tonic.
