Men Kept As Slaves Found On Caravan Site

Police have found two dozen men they believe were being kept as slaves on a caravan site in Bedfordshire.

In a major operation, the Greenacre caravan park in Leighton Buzzard was raided at around 5.30am on Sunday.

More than 200 police officers, police dogs and the fire arms unit were involved in the rescue mission.

The victims are a range of ages and are mostly English and eastern European.
They were initially taken to an undisclosed medical reception centre and are now being cared for by the local authority.

Four men and one woman, who all live on the site, have been arrested under the Slavery and Servitude Act 2010.

They are being held at police stations across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

The raid followed a lengthy investigation by the Beds and Herts Major Crime Unit after reports people were being held against their will in poor conditions and forced to work for no pay.

Det Chief Insp Sean O’Neil from the unit said: "The men we found at the site were in a poor state of physical health and the conditions they were living in were shockingly filthy and cramped.

"We believe that some of them had been living and working there in a state of virtual slavery, some for just a few weeks and other for up to 15 years.

"A small number of officers are remaining at the site to complete searches and to liaise with the residents.

"We understand that some people may have information about what has been happening, but have been too scared to come forward and report it."

I could understand if they were all Eastern European, but English too. Very strange.

Twenty-four people believed to have been held as slaves have been rescued
following a dawn raid in Bedfordshire

One hundred and fifty police officers were involved in the operation at a site close to Leighton Buzzard.
It is believed the people were recruited from soup kitchens, benefits offices and other locations, with the promise of accommodation and work.
When the people were brought to the site though, they had their heads shaved, mobile phones confiscated and made to work as labourers for no pay and live in squalid conditions.
Five people were arrested during the raid. Detectives are eager to talk to at least another three people in connection with holding people against their will, and slavery offences.
Some of those found on the site are believed to have been held there for as long as 15 years. If they tried to leave they were threatened and beaten.
Detective Chief Inspector Sean O'Neil from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crimes Unit told Sky News: "Generally they were held in dirty, filthy conditions, hardly any food, not replacement clothing, as compared to their gangmasters who were living
    in almost palatial backgrounds.
"They were generally the most vulnerable people in society, who can disappear and be held here without anyone knowing they were missing."
Detectives were alerted to what was going on by 28 people who had escaped from the site.
When they arrived the police expected to find around 15 people who were being held as slaves. After a search of the entire site, a total of 24 men were found, most of them British.
Detectives said they were found in an awful state. They had been living in small caravans or sheds spread throughout the travellers site.
They were made to work as labourers on projects across Britain and even in Scandinavia, detectives added.
In return the men were paid nothing and given little food.
On their one 'day of rest' on a Sunday, they were made to get up at 6am and clean the travellers site.
All 24 people are now being cared for at a reception centre, where they will get held from medical and other professionals - one of whom is a specialist in torture.
The four men and one woman arrested, all Irish are being questioned by the police.

Not so strange. Just people with mental problems being exploited. I think that "they were generally the most vulnerable people in society" is a polite way of saying that. Then the poor physical condition drags down their mental condition even further.
What amazes me is that they went around Britain and even to Scandinavia !

Agreed 100%, they're nothing more than filthy criminal parasites, and a complete drain on society.

Interesting that over the years Ireland managed to get rid of so many of these dirty C*NTS by exporting them to the UK (of course), that was until the Eurocentric Liboturds spouting human tights as usual intervened!

Hitler did a terrible thing in promoting his slaughter of those whom he despised EXCEPT when it came to the pikeys. If only he had made a clean sweep when he had the opportunity the world would now be a much better place.

Dreadful people and should be exterminated.

When you have been on the dole in the UK now you are "offered" this type of work. If you reject it your entitlement to "benefits" are stopped.

    it's the new way.

A mate I work with ,, his 16 year old daughter is signing on ,, has to do 30 hours per week in a care home cleaning for 60 = 2 per hour ,,, plus the fact is doing away with a proper job for someone to be paid properly for . ..........

Not that anyone should be suprised this is Tory policy ,,,,,,,,,,crush the trade union,s ,wipeout the working man,s terms and conditions ,,,,,,all work for peanuts ,,, scare the shit outta the working man by keep letting him know how lucky his is to have ANY work ,,,,,,, meanwhile further up the ladder the tally ho banking / executive crew cream off millions in bonus payments !

I know it sounds bit harsh what I said last night, but,

Apparently most were alcoholics, which is classed in the UK as an illness I believe

I worked with 2 guys who both came to work pissed as arseholes one day

One was sacked, the other not

The reason being the one guy, when asked if he had a drink problem replied No, so he ws fired, the other guy was given counselling and help

The point I am getting to is now these alcies are probably clean, well apart from a bit of malnutrition and have some skills

Anyone need some Block Paving ?
