    Pikeys to get evicted.

Travellers lose eviction fight at biggest UK site

    BASILDON, England | Wed Aug 31, 2011 5:54pm BST

(Reuters) - About 400 Travellers are set to be removed from their homes on the largest unauthorised site in Britain after London's High Court on Wednesday rejected their last-ditch attempt to stop the move.

A local authority will now be able to go ahead with plans to force out 86 families and bulldoze illegally-erected properties at Dale Farm, home to the largest Traveller community in Britain near Basildon, to the northeast of London.

After a long-running legal battle lasting a decade, the group had sought an injunction to stop the eviction with the case hinging on a seriously ill 72-year-old resident Mary Flynn whose health lawyers argued would be affected.

However the court dismissed the application, although Basildon Council promised to review fresh medical evidence before taking action against her, the Press Association reported.

"Obviously lots of the residents are devastated. It was their last hope," Jake Fulton from the Dale Farm Solidarity group told Reuters. Some Travellers have warned they would not leave their homes peacefully.

"If the bailiffs make it messy it will be," Fulton said. "At the end of day if we do fail to succeed with legal means, people will be engaging in non-violent direct action to prevent destruction of people's homes they have bought legally.

"It's very difficult to know how people might react when their homes are being broken into and destroyed."

The decade-long legal battle centres on the erection of buildings on the site, a former scrap yard which is owned by the Travellers and is home to more than a thousand residents of Irish and English Gypsy heritage.

The council said the residents on half the site did not have planning permission to build homes on the "green belt" land, which is subject to special planning consent to prevent unwanted developments.

Its lawyer told the High Court Dale Farm was the largest unauthorised Travellers' site in Britain and granting an injunction to prevent enforcement action to remove the homes would be sanctioning criminal activity.

Supporters of Dale Farm, who include actress Vanessa Redgrave, said the eviction would be the largest in recent history and would cost some 18 million pounds.

They say the residents would leave voluntarily if the council provided them with alternative sites and agree planning permission for them.

A protest camp has been set up at the site, but the government gave its backing to the eviction.

"The British courts have found that the developments at Dale Farm are in breach of planning law and Basildon District Council is within its rights to evict travellers from the site," said a spokesman for the Department for Communities and Local Government.

"It has taken 10 years of failed negotiations and legal process to reach this point, and the unprecedented level of unauthorised development on green belt land has severely damaged community relations."

The councils objection that it's a blot on the landscape of a green belt area is obviously bullshit.
The council are willing to spend 18 million to remove them which is fucking ludicrous,
they could develop a site for them for 2 mil or build them all a nice house to live in
as well as all the others that are in need of affordable housing.

the 18 million figure seems already to have become a fact by post 3 , but its only Venesa Regraves ball park figure in post 1 .
Why should the immigrant scum be allowed to buy a dirt cheap green belt -ie no buildings allowed - field for thier ''horses'' then build an estate on it ?
The army should be sent it ,they should surround the field and evict the gypos and confiscate all thier possessions- cars, van, horses -everything
they would think twice next time about trying to steal our land .

THE maximum estimated cost of evicting travellers from Dale Farm in Crays Hill has risen to 18 million, the Echo can reveal.
Basildon Council is set to vote on March 14 to reserve 8 million for the large-scale clearance of 96 families.
The new figure is on top of the 10 million Essex Police estimates it could cost the force.http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/8892...___18_million/

    .
No worries mate. The pikeys do own the land and half of it was given planning permission. It used to be a scrapyard.

I wouldn't want them in my backyard either, but where are they going to go and is 18 million being well spent?

I hope the police like fighting pikeys, cos it gonna kick off.

maybe they can just open a newspapers classified section and look at expensive places to rent ,just like every other person seeking a home has to do.
I agree with the idea that green belt should be developed up to a point where housing is affordable ,but only for indigenous people .

A line has to be drawn mate ,,,,, if they get away with this one it will set a precedent for all and sundry to follow and claim the same rights.

Where are they to go you ask ,,,,,,,,, well all of those being evicted are to be offered Council housing ,, if they chose to live in lay bys now thats their choice.

It also has to be pointed out a docu was done recently about these families and how much land they own back in Paddy land

building on land without planning permission was always
    gonna be troublesome.
i've never known any council to back down when planning has
    not been given.
for it to cost 18 million to evict them seems like a hugh waste
of public funds when surely some alternative to suit both parties
can be got at by sitting round a table.
gonna be messy and something that the kids won't forget.

never seen or heard about the documentary about land they own back in ireland
so that must make some difference to their plight.
can't simply come to the uk and openly break the law on that scale.

Of course it's not bullshit, piles of building rubble, old mattresses and caravan toilets emptied onto the fields IS considered an eye sore to decent people.

86 houses for two mil, hmmmm, doubt that very much and besides the gypsies would only strip the kitchens bathrooms and roof tiles and flog them off, I know I've seen them do it when they were housed near me, it's what they do

Who on earth would want to live nest door to those thieving violent people?

Seriously, just look honestly at the devastation gypsies leave behind every where they go, if gypsies think that they deserve they same rights as other people within our society then they have to act as responsible members of our society and not as criminals and outlaws that move on as soon as their criminal ways have drawn too much police attention.

I saw the documentary where they have gas bottles to use as flamethrowers. Should be fun for the eviction team.
The women are more scary than the men, they should just fuk off back to Ireland.

I suppose it is about breaking the law/cheating in a big enough scale, owe 200 and they will hunt you until the day you die, owe 200 billion and they will hunt the guy owing the 200 for a contribution to your free bail out

2 squatters no problem removed by police in 5 min. a 1000 squatters from a minority group and it becomes a case about discrimination and human rights

The lesson learned here is if you want to go down the lawbreaking/cheating road don't do it half arsed.

It is a strange world sometimes.

They were offered housing early in the talks to get them off this land, they declined.
I have had a few run-ins with 'travellers' its impossible to get any agreement from them.
They cause massive disruption to all the local schools. The kids are running free to bully all the local children, backed up by their lawless parents.

Just cut off the electricity and water

Arrest any of the illegals when they come out, so they cannot return

Make sure no supplies can go in

Take any children into care until the parents come out and collect them

It will be a slow process, and there will be some last ditch fools who will need to be evicted forcibly

I don't have much sympathy for people breaking the planning laws, and creating an unpleasant environment for their neighbours
    I have reported your post

Hardly making it uncomfortable for them .

They have also announced today that they will not be doing anything to shift em for about 2 weeks ,,,,,, also they are to make NO suprise evictions .

There,s more ,the latest delay tactics these bastards are using is to say they ALL have elderly relatives who are in no fit state to be moved , because the electric cannot be disconnected as their defiblirators will stop ,, and they are claiming every elder has to have a family of carers around them on site to look after them.

    Back to square one !

a UN committee condemns plans to evict them

On Friday the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination issued a statement saying: "We call on the Government to suspend the planned eviction, which would disproportionately affect the lives of the Gypsy and Traveller families, particularly women, children and older people."
