Dance Club Drug Ecstasy Developed to Cure Cancer

Scientists have known for years that the nightclubbers' drug, Ecstasy, as well as, other psychotropic drugs suppress the growth of over half of all white blood cancer cells.
New research proves that Ecstasy may kill some cancer cells, but scientists have increased its effectiveness 100-fold, they noted in the journal, "Investigational New Drugs."

Researchers also chemically re-engineered ecstasy by taking some atoms away and putting new ones in their place, thus reducing the toxic effect on the brain.
An earlier study showed all leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma cells could be killed in a test tube, but any treatment would be a decade away.
"Together, we were looking at structures of compounds that were more effective," said John Gordon, a professor at the University of Birmingham's School of Immunology and Infection.
BBC News reports, one variant increased cancer-fighting effectiveness 100-fold, meaning if 100 grams of un-modified ecstasy was needed to get the desired effect, only one gram of the modified ecstasy would be needed to have the same effect.

"Against the cancers, particularly the leukaemia, the lymphoma and the myeloma, where we've tested these new compounds we can wipe out 100 percent of the cancer cells in some cases," Gordon said.
Scientists at the University of Birmingham discovered that six years ago and included in their laboratory experiments were weight-loss pills and antidepressants like Prozac.
Gordon added, "They started to look more lipophilic, that is, they were attracted to the lipids that make up cell walls. This would make them more 'soapy' so they would end up getting into the cancer cells more easily and possibly even start dissolving them."
Study authors wrote that using enough MDMA to effectively treat a patient with a malignant tumor would likely kill cancer cells.
Researchers teamed up with a group from the University of Western Australia, working together to create new compounds.

I don't know how true this is, but the big issue would be the legalization and control of it by the governments. It's been proven that marujuana has several benefits for sufferers of certain illnesses or pain, but it's only availabale in its medical for from very few suppliers.

.... very true, marujuana is a natural hearb, which the pharma companys cannot put a patent on, or own it, so if they cant control it, they had it made illegal/fact/..and as you say it helps certain illnesses and pain control/fact/..

Very poor quality pills has led people to take pure mdma, a reckless endevour as I know all too well. 1 gram will make 12 good strength pills.. try working that out as you try to get the right amount out the wrap and on your fingertip, while your eyes are jittering about like a pair of electric marbles.. very messy.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

I can understand the sentiment in your statement. But it is not exactly true.

Potent drugs like Marihuana are inherently illegal until thoroughly tested by medical procedures and approved. You are right, no pharma company is going to do the necessary research and testing to make it legal for the reasons you have given, they cannot make the money from it to make it worthwile.

But they have not "made it illegal".

takeovers..But they have not "made it illegal"...no mate i never said that , i said they had it made ILLEGAL, through there reps/contacts in goverment who make the laws..and as far as i know-- it is against the law to grow your own green...i think it was about the same time when RANDOLPH HEARST/newspaper baron/ went to congress/courts to get the growing of HEMP made illegal, as he was the owner of big paper mills, which was in direct conflict with his bizz empire..

I once quadruple dropped, such was my love for the drug, but alas I was promptly removed from the dance hall and subsequently barred from a neighbouring kebab shop..

Apparently waterfall-esque salivation took place, but I'm buggered if I can remember..

    ^Mitsubishi branded aspirin?

Doubt there will be any more cures for anything as long as big pharma controls things. No profit in curing anything where a long term treatment of symptoms is considered a better option.
