..Police Academy Star 'Hightower' Dies In LA

Charles "Bubba" Smith, who played the giant police officer Moses Hightower in the Police Academy comedy films, has died aged 66.
The film star's body was found at his home in Los Angeles - he is believed to have died of natural causes.
Smith initially found fame as a National Football League lineman who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Colts.
After retiring, he turned to the small screen where he appeared in a number of TV roles.
But it was as Moses Hightower, a menacingly tall but soft-spoken police recruit in Police Academy, that he really made his mark.

The 6ft 7in star appeared in six out of seven of the Police Academy franchise that began in 1984.
The premise of the original story was that a new mayor announced a policy insisting a police department accepted all willing recruits.
That idea brought in a group of misfit recruits and the film was based on their antics as they tried to prove themselves capable of being police officers.
As well as gaining a cult cinema following, Smith also used his giant appeal in several Miller Lite commercials where he could be seen ripping off the tops of beer cans.
Death is natures way of telling you to slow down.

I thought his best role was when he fought Al Bundy for a high school football trophy on Married with Children. Al won.
Rest in peace Bubba, too bad your life was not longer.

Don't remember him for his awful movie roles- he was one of the best linemen that ever played- that's his legacy.

The coroner's report is out- looks like diet pills took him down:

Bubba Smith died of drug intoxication, coroner says

Los Angeles County Coroner's officials announced Wednesday that former all-pro football player turned actor and commercial pitchman Bubba Smith died of acute drug intoxication and other conditions.

The autopsy found that Smith, 66, whose body was discovered Aug. 3 by a caretaker at his Baldwin Hills home, was found to have phentermine, a weight-loss drug, in his system. Coroner's officials said he also had heart disease and high-blood pressure.

The 66-year-old actor's heart was abnormally large — nearly twice the weight of a normal heart — and some vessels were blocked as much as 75%, according to the report.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
