More asylum seekers riot in Australia.

I hope NONE of these arseholes gets a visa.
At least gillard is plain speking on this one.

Tear gas quells asylum seeker protest in Australia

    • AP foreign, Wednesday July 20 2011 VIJAY JOSHI
Associated Press= SYDNEY (AP) — Australian police fired tear gas and shock grenades to quell asylum seekers who set fires at a detention center in a protest that the prime minister said Wednesday could hurt their chances of getting visas.
One man was arrested after Tuesday night's riot by some 50 inmates at the Christmas Island detention center, an Australian Federal Police spokesman said.
He said the protesters "breached a number of compounds" within the center. They used improvised weapons and lit several fires, he said without elaborating.
Police retaliated with "bean bag" rounds, or lead pellets encased in cushions, tear gas and sound grenades, said the spokesman, who spoke on customary condition of anonymity. There were no injuries.
Protests frequently erupt at the overcrowded Christmas Island center, where Australia processes asylum seekers who have often fled poverty and war in the Middle East or Asia.
Tuesday's protest — the fourth this year — is a reflection of the challenges faced by Australia's policy of mandatory detention of refugees. Most of them risk their lives by undertaking perilous boat journeys from Malaysia or Indonesia, which they also enter illegally.
The U.N. Refugee Agency has urged Australia to seek alternatives to detention, saying automatic detention violates international law and does not appear to deter asylum seekers.
A Department of Immigration spokesman refused to say what sparked the latest protest or identify the nationalities of the protesters.
"Their reasons are their own. We are not going to speak for them," said the spokesman, also speaking on the same condition of anonymity.
He said all detainees involved in the protest returned to their compound and the external perimeter of the compound was not breached.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard condemned the riot, saying the asylum seekers cannot speed up their visa application process "by misbehaving."
"If you commit criminal offense it will be counted against you," she told reporters, referring to a new "character test" that bars prospective immigrants from the country if they have a criminal record.
"Indeed, it will prevent them from getting a visa," she said.
In March, more than 200 detainees demanding visas set fire to buildings and tried to escape from the center, which is located in the Indian Ocean and houses some 1,100 inmates. It is located closer to Indonesia than the Australian mainland, which is 1,600 miles (2,600 kilometers) away.
Another protest broke out last month and one more occurred Sunday, when 11 inmates climbed onto the roof at the detention center's main compound, which mainly holds single adult males.

Cocksuckers should be made to pay for any damage. The UN refugee agency should shut the fuck up. If these were genuine refugees they would be happy with Malaysia or Indonesia instead of going for Gold.

You know whats worse ? we have shit bags protesting that they are being hard done by but the fact remains no genuine refuge could ever afford to buy there way onto a boat.

At least the Liberals under Howard had a handle on it and stopped much of the Illegal entry where as the Labor government opened the door again under the Human rights guise.

Australia will end up like that shit pit England if she gets her way.

Gillard wont be around much longer as her Carbon Tax is going to see her down the road. We give her a go and she has managed to turn the vast majority of Aussies against her in 12 months.

    Bye Bye Julia.

    How about instant repatriation?
It would still violate international law, but I reckon it would deter asylum seekers.

Don't believe a word that the Government says on immagration, they tell you what they want you to hear. The truth is a long way from what is said. They can't even deport them unless they agree to leave. You can't transport them in handcuffs, no airline will allow that. All the deportee has to do is create a stir and they will be thrown off the plane. There is no Federal agency to do non voluntary deportations. The immigration dept is not like the Thai immigration police, they are a bunch of paper pushing public servants. It's not the job of the Federal Police unless it's for extradition. In the end they just sit in detention centers until they agree to leave, with a load of money or they get released into the community. There are exceptions, but that gets bigger than Ben Hur, when they have no choice, but to get someone out. We are just a solf, welfare giving touch. Jim

What shits me is these fvckers are "demanding' visa's!!!!!

The nerve of these desert monkeys is unbelievable. If life was so shit back home, then a few months in detention with all your dirty mates getting three meals a day must be heaven. WTF are they complaining about?

Australia has gone soft under Gillard, the sooner she's gone the better, this bleeding heart shit would never have happened under Howards watch.

Don't make much difference who's in power, it's the same result, just less public. Of shore detention just keeps it out of the public eye, they still get in. Don't know the numbers, but would guess not much of a difference in how many refos we let in. All smoke and mirrors. Jim

There's a whole lot of manoeuvring between '' could affect their chances of getting visas'' and

will affect their chances of getting visas.

    Typical politician double speak.
