Yankerikkka: 178 teachers/principal's raise student scores. Atlanta.

What a joke of a country... 178 in Atlanta alone. Dozens more cheating scandals unearthed across the country.

America's biggest teacher and principal cheating scandal unfolds in Atlanta

At least 178 teachers and principals in Atlanta Public Schools cheated to raise student scores on high-stakes standardized tests, according to a report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Award-winning gains by Atlanta students were based on widespread cheating by 178 named teachers and principals, said Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal on Tuesday. His office released a report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation that names 178 teachers and principals – 82 of whom confessed – in what's likely the biggest cheating scandal in US history.

This appears to be the largest of dozens of major cheating scandals, unearthed across the country. The allegations point an ongoing problem for US education, which has developed an ever-increasing dependence on standardized tests.

The report on the Atlanta Public Schools, released Tuesday, indicates a "widespread" conspiracy by teachers, principals and administrators to fix answers on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test (CRCT), punish whistle-blowers, and hide improprieties.

It "confirms our worst fears," says Mayor Kasim Reed. "There is no doubt that systemic cheating occurred on a widespread basis in the school system." The news is “absolutely devastating," said Brenda Muhammad, chairwoman of the Atlanta school board. "It’s our children. You just don’t cheat children.”

The students are really quite lucky... they weren't some of the ones sent to US prisons by US judges for $$.

Well, the government requires students to score above a certain percentage and if they don't then the teachers are held responsible.

Most students in the USA are idiots now a days with poor motivation to actually learn.

Can you really blame teachers for trying to keep their jobs in a education system that promotes poor learning?

I'm guessing the Atlanta public school system has a majority population of poor African-American kids?

This is what happens when the states put more of an emphasis on standardized testing scores than teaching anything of substance.

Perhaps it's one of the factors why average Americans are thick as shit.

Wonder why American school teachers and principals across the country have to risk criminal charges in order for American students to seem accomplished.

    Yes.

The schools in America are as good as the neighborhoods they reside in. Put a school in a bad area and it will probably be a bad school. The good teachers don't want to work there and the parents don't push the students to acheive. It all starts at home. The real issue is, how do you correct that?

The system is built on student success or no money for the student.

So short version is each student who passes gets funding. Each student who fails no money. Therefore fewer teachers. More hard to reach students per teacher.

Sounds fair. Until you use the same logic to say, doctors or lawyers or police etc. Other factors often overwhelm the 5 hour standard school day. Then the restrictive nature of the funding is like a dark spiral.

Having lived in metro Atlanta for 30 years, this does not come as a surprise to me.
The Atlanta public schools have been one of the poorest performing systems in the state for many years.
Atlanta being to home town of Martian Luther King, every nigger in America feels compelled to go there at least once in their life. The problem is, they never go back home.

This pretty much sums it up.

I don't want to go into a "kids these days rant", mainly because even my generation had the same percentage of fuck ups in school as the kids nowadays, I would guess.

The breakdown was about 20% wanted to excel, 60% wanted to just get by and graduate, and then there were about 20% that wanted to do fuck all in school (this was in a middle class high school - some areas the percentages were very different, most likely).

Really nothing the average teacher can do about this, there are some exceptional teachers who know how to motivate students and care enough to keep pushing the "challenged" ones to succeed, but these types are rare, I think.

Fact is, our schools are education factory farms whose sole purpose is to grind out moderately equipped individuals for the work world or college.

Those who happen to excel in that environment will get scholarships, those who don't join the army or fuck around until they wise up and decide on a vocation. Some never make it and that's why we have the largest rate of incarceration in the developed world, probably.

Teachers are pretty useless all over. UK, Ireland, Asia. The kids they spawn are even worse, such needy people they become.
