    Pregnant Nun Advert Banned

Pregnant nun ice cream advert banned for 'mockery'

Antonio Federici said its advert was meant to be humorous
An ice cream company banned from using an advert displaying a pregnant nun has vowed to position similar posters in London in time for the Pope's visit.
Antonio Federici's advert showed a pregnant nun eating ice cream in a church, together with the strap line "immaculately conceived".
The Advertising Standards Authority has ordered it to be discontinued, saying it mocked Roman Catholic beliefs.
Antonio Federici says it will now put up new posters near Westminster Abbey.
Pope Benedict XVI will visit Westminster Abbey on Friday, before holding Mass at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday.
Antonio Federici, a UK-based company, has yet to reveal what image will be portrayed in the new advert, saying only that it would be "a continuation of the theme".

A spokeswoman for the company said the new image intended to "defy" the ban from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
She added: "We are in the process of securing a series of billboards close to and along the planned route of the Pope's cavalcade around Westminster Cathedral".
A spokesman for the ASA said its rulings "must be followed and we are taking steps to ensure Antonio Federici do so".
He added: "We do not comment on the likely compliance of ads that have not yet appeared.
"However, we are continuing to conduct work behind the scenes, including with the advertiser, to ensure they comply with the rules."

To use such an image in a lighthearted way to advertise ice cream was likely to cause serious offence to readers, particularly those who practised the Roman Catholic faith”

Defending the banned nun advert, Antonio Federici said the idea of "conception" represented the development of their ice cream.
It added that the use of religious imagery represented its strong feeling towards its product.
The firm said it also wished to "comment on and question, using satire and gentle humour, the relevance and hypocrisy of religion and the attitudes of the church to social issues".
The banned advert was featured in editions of The Lady and Grazia magazines.
The ASA said in its ruling: "We considered the use of a nun pregnant through immaculate conception was likely to be seen as a distortion and mockery of the beliefs of Roman Catholics.
"We concluded that to use such an image in a lighthearted way to advertise ice cream was likely to cause serious offence to readers, particularly those who practised the Roman Catholic faith."
The publishers of The Lady said it had received eight complaints and that it had been a "misjudgement" to have published .
Grazia said it considered that the advert was lighthearted and did not mock any religious groups.
The ASA banned another advert for Antonio Federici in July 2009 that showed a priest and a nun appearing as if they were about to kiss.

Good for them. Should put up an altar boy being chased by a priest around the confessional booth, as well.

they are absently right. As we all know the clergy are all perfect saints, no nun has ever been pregnant, no priest has ever run off with a parishioner and no pop has ever fathered a child. So we should not be disrespecting them in anyway.

After all if we don't show them enough respect; the catholics will riot in the streets and go around killing people, opps sorry wrong religion

IF ICE CREAM ADVERTS CAN'T OFFEND CATHOLICS THEN WHAT ARE THEY FOR? ASKS BRITAIN

THE future of British ice cream adverts was thrown into doubt last night as the industry watchdog ruled they can no longer offend Roman Catholics.

    Gasping for a Mini Milk

For years Catholics have recoiled in horror as a series of sexually attractive young women have sucked, licked and ravenously bitten into an ice cream product which was not their husband.

Now the Advertising Standards Authority has drawn the line after the latest advert showed a model dressed as a nun who had been impregnated by either God or a tub of chocolate ice cream.

But as the ASA claimed the advert was a 'distortion and mockery of the beliefs of Roman Catholics' experts across Britain said 'so fucking what?'.

Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute for Studies, said: "I wouldn't have minded if they'd banned it for claiming God can get you up the duff. If only the ASA had made a strong, unambiguous statement that all pregnant nuns have been fucked.

"And is the ASA saying immaculate conception might be real? Because if it is, then I don't think it should be in charge of judging adverts."

Monsignor Stephen Malley, head of the church's ice cream advertising committee, welcomed the ban, adding: "All ice cream adverts should feature young children sucking and licking their yummy treat in a variety of seemingly innocent positions."

Meanwhile consumers have been suggesting the ice cream adverts they would like to see when the Pope arrives in Britain later this week.

Julian Cook, from Durham, said: "What about a topless nun about to bite into an ice cream Jesus that's nailed to a pair of Flakes with the slogan 'forgive me Lord, but I know exactly what I'm doing'."

Tom Logan, from Finsbury Park, added: "They should have a happy, teenage African girl holding a strawberry cone with the slogan 'It's so good I almost forgot I have AIDS from not using a condom'."

And Helen Archer, from Stevenage, said: "I think they should have a sexy woman dressed as the Virgin Mary fellating a large, ice cream penis, and at the bottom it just says 'lick it'.

"Or what about a priest having sex with a tub of vanilla choc chip with the slogan 'feels even better on your cock than a 10 year-old boy'."
