    Fidel Castro questions Cuban socialism

I came upon this news article and found it quite interesting. According to "The Atlantic" Fidel Castro said

The Cuban model does'nt even work for us any more.

That is quite obvious of course except for a few fantasists but hearing it from Fidel himself is surprising.

    Fidel Castro questions ...

I don't know the source but at least it does not look like one of these nutter sites on first glance and it is in the news here too.

The sad thing about Cuba is that the people were fucked under the Batista regime and then then were fucked under the Castro regime...although it could be argued that they got free dental care.... Choice between the New York mafia running things or a Marxist dictator. Kind of like being offered the choice of being hanged or shot.

Anybody who can argue that Cuba was better off as a result of the revolution is living in a dream world. If you want to live in a commie slave state there's still a couple you can choose from.

I'd definitely have preferred living under Batista. More fun.

I've lived in a couple of commie countries before the curtain fell, generally no fun for family but the women and booze were always cheap.

I am an American, well educated (able to read quite well thank you) at a military academy, and served in the US Navy for many years during the cold war. I have no brief with the left wing, or communists in general. However, I believe the US embargo of Cuba is a very stupid and self-defeating policy. I also believe that a case can be made that the Cuban revolution did improve the lives of many Cubans over what they were getting under Batista. This does not mean that it was the best of all possible outcomes. Better they would have developed into a "liberal" democracy. It may still happen.

The bulk of the Cuban people feel that the Castro regime has benefited them. That is the opinion that matters, not those of a bunch of outsiders. Fidel is still very popular in Cuba. Note that, unlike so many capitalist dictators, he did not loot the country to amass ridiculous amounts of cash in Swiss bank accounts.

Ok, if you're educated and trained with the military, how come you haven't worked out that when you cut and paste from Word etc. you should change the font colour to white so that it can be easily read?

True but he failed to develop a working political structure. That is clearly demonstrated through the succession by his brother.

It is a personal cult. Yes he is popular but he did not allow any opposition that could argue against his government. Oppositon is in prison or driven out of the country.
