Mariner Oil is a US Independent Oil Company, so there is no chance of any witch hunt concerning the "Good Ole Boys"

Again???? When was the US not dependent on foreign oil? During the Bush administration well over 50% of US oil came from outside the US. BTW gas prices are lower now. The unemployment problem was caused by events put in place or those that actually ocurred during Bush's regime.

Coast Guard received reports around 9 am this morning of an installation on fire with 12 people in the water and one missing.

All 13 people were recovered from the water and all were wearing immersion suits.

The OSV Crystal Clear picked them up and took them to a nearby platform, according to a Coast Guard release.

Coast Guard helicopters will take the crew to Terrebonne General Hospital.

A Coast Guard spokesman did not have further information about possible injuries.

The spokesman said the Coast Guard launched two helicopters from Houston and three from New Orleans to rescue survivors. Also, the cutter Decisive has been dispatched and three more cutters are on the way.

The lease owner is Mariner Energy, which was being bought out by US independent Apache.

The structure is a manned, fixed steel production platform piled to the seabed, which also serves as a junction point for numerous pipelines.

Water depth in the vicinity is around 340 feet.

Current production from the platform was about 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 1400 barrels of oil and condensate, Mariner said in a release.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

There have been reports of a one-mile slick from the platform, which Mariner has denied.

Mariner has been drilling and producing on the Gulf of Mexico shelf for years and had marked candidates for further drilling including on Vermilion Block 380 prior to the merger announcement with Apache in April.

A Mariner representative could not be reached to confirm details.

I would think 8 years of his predecessor's "NO Tax for my Buddies" policy while starting two wars,
and then the 20 years before that of Reagan Revolution deregulation of the financial system- has more of a bearing on the current situation .

Don't get me wrong, I don't support Obama, he has spit in the face of the majority of liberally thinking Americans that voted for him.

I only wish for a true liberal, not these center corporatists calling themselves left.
