Diana lookalike employed to launch Chinese lingerie

Jealousy International risks controversy on anniversary of Diana’s death

A Chinese lingerie company has unveiled a range of 'Diana underwear' using a Princess of Wales lookalike model, apparently cashing in on the 13th anniversary of her death on August 31, 1997.

Although this is a date more likely to be recalled in Britain than China, the ads – produced for Jealousy International, a company based in the southern city of Foshan - feature a tiara-clad model dressed in light blue bra and knickers playing a cello to a child. They have been displayed on giant billboards in shops and airports across China.

"Feel the romance of British royalty, Diana underwear" the tagline reads, while the manufacturer's website rather confusingly calls Diana's taste "French Romantic".

Britain has restrictions on using images of royalty to promote products but is powerless to act against firms doing so abroad. A Jealousy International representative told China Radio today that the "Diana line" was supposed to honour Diana's taste in underwear.

Clarence House, which represents Prince Charles, declined to comment. But Alan Berry, co-founder of the Diana Appreciation Society, set up to preserve her memory, said: "It does seem to be just blatant exploitation of a dead lady's name."

Meanwhile, people gathered outside Diana's former London home, Kensington Palace, yesterday, leaving floral tributes and cards on the railings to mark the anniversary.

did she really taste "French Romantic" ?

Well her last trip to Paris was one that made the news, maybe not in a "romantic" kind of way though.

I cannot find any reference to her underwear at the time.

Whilst I couldn't care less, how would the Chinese/Asian other? react if we did the same to their respected icons. They do love to play the 'culture' card as a defense mechanism, but it is nothing more than a bargaining chip, they have zero respect for their own culture or anyone elses. One of the reasons that the sino-PAD always strike me as such absolute liars...

Red & Black with frilly French knickers would be more like it.

according to this it's not exactly 'new' news, just that this time it has got publicity

Princess Di's death anniversary used to sell underwear in China

Guangdong-based underwear company Jealousy International has been selling their Diana brand of underwear for years now. But to commemorate the anniversary of Princess Diana's death, they rolled out a new ad campaign featuring a half-naked Diana doppleganger playing a cello. Unfortunately, a British citizen was right there to capture it.

And then he told the Daily Mail about it:
A British journalist who happened to see the images this morning was appalled. Sam Chambers said: 'I was just going to collect my baggage from the carousel when I saw it flash up on a rolling advertising screen and couldn't quite believe what I was seeing.'
Mr Chambers, who is originally from Kent, but has worked in China for a decade, added: 'I thought, surely not, because it was rolling quite quickly. So I waited to check when it came up again and, sure enough, there was an image of Diana.

'It's all the more striking because today is the anniversary of her death.'

The company told China Radio International that, from the beginning, the "Diana" line was supposed to honor Princess Diana's taste in underwear. Their website for the line depicts Diana's taste as very faux "French Romantic," which leads me to wonder if they ever actually saw anything she wore.

Under the slogan "Feel the romance of British royalty", the ad features the "Princess" wearing a tiara, necklace and blue bra and knickers as she plays a cello to a child.
Calvin Klien should sign Charlie boy up.

Don't think Chas would have started cocking horse features if Di looked like that model.
    Perhaps Di was cum shy.
