Not at all. First off, let's get through the Congressional races this year, shall we? I have a feeling Rahm has him minions out running about to change the electoral lines to ensure a few special dems are reinstated. Anyway, the People are no longer fooled by obama's lies, his spending, his big govt and heaps of new regulations, his ludicrous health care reform, appeasement of foreign enemies, his car buyout and stupid scams like cash for clunkers and free mortgage payments. Even dems are underscoring the fact that they didn't vote for his policies in this current re-election for reps and senators. dems lose. Take your socialist PC crap and shove it. Let America get back to work. The world used to hate the US coz it's the best; now they laugh at it.

Saddling the country with even more debt and printing more money doesn't seem to have achieved anything much either.

Perhaps there just isn't an answer....

I think you got it right. One of the main reasons that China, India and Brazil will become economic powers is that they are not proud owners of a welfare state that by accident or design nurtures parasites and feeds them as they breed.

I was quite impressed with America.

Faced with the worst recession in 80 years the country elects a President who promises a massive State healthcare programme.

Even Turkeys have more sense than to vote for Thanksgiving.

We opened yet another bottle of Pinot Noir and congratulated ourselves for having been clever enough to be born in time to catch the last wave of wealth accumulation. And we laughed at the miseries of the liberal establishment. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke seems authentically perplexed; he followed the instructions to the letter, mixing the eye of newt with the tongue of bat, and adding $2 trillion in securities to the witches’ brew–but nothing seems to have happened. He sits up night in his tower studying ancient manuscripts: was it a she-goat or a he-goat that he is supposed to sacrifice on a moonless night?
And we felt some sympathy for the Tea Party types who want to march on Frankenstein’s castle and burn it down. If they ever have the misfortune to get into power, they will discover how much of the problem stems from the sloth, complacency, ignorance and incompetence of ordinary Americans. We’ve had the financial ride of our lives during the past fifteen years courtesy of the rest of the world, and now it’s over. We have to learn how to export again–and that is not going to be easy." you're as much of an american as obama is a muslim. which is to say....not at all.

i know you need to be reminded of this from time to time, but you're not american. no matter how many posts you make on US political issues on a thai based internet forum.....you're still not an american..... and according to many posts on this board, you were actually deported from the US a few years back.

so let's drop this 'we' business, eh?

[quote=raycarey;1547221and you raise an interesting question that no one on the right has an answer to. who are they going to run against obama in 2012?

    [/quote]

Maybe they'll run Bloomberg. Then Pickel, Chitown and some of the other even whackier right-wing nut jobs will have the choice of a "Muslim" or a "Jew" in the White House. Now that would be funny to watch - oh the anxiety..

there's a chance that bloomberg will end up replacing geithner at treasury after the mid-terms.

and the (slim) possibility exists that he'll replace biden on the ticket in 2012.

Is it because the USA is such a fledgling democratic state that explains this bizarre preoccupation septics seem to have with their dreary politics?

Most other folk from more enlightened societies have long understood that politics and their exponents are really quite irrelevent insofar as partisanship is concerned and are quite content to simply cast a jaundiced eye over the lot of them.

Mid term elections? Who on earth would give a shit.

Next thing you lot will be obssessing about is whether or not Obama is circumcised.

America should follow Thailand's example where politicians spend all their time trying to look important and the economy does its thing regardless.

Avg unemployment rate under Buxh was about 5%. You do remember that Congress was stuffed with liberals in his last two years? I also reckon that when biz saw obama win, they packed up shop. Unemployment still increases (oh, but it's so much slower!), likely coz there are fewer jobs to get fired from.

As it was under Clinton. And we had a balanced budget, with an actual surplus. Bush gave all that money (putting us in a huge debt situation) away to his cronies right off the bat and now we've got nothing for this monstrous mess that he caused.

Thank God, otherwise we'd be in a true Great Depression if the Dems hadn't tried (and failed mostly) to put some brakes on the reckless Bush policies.

No, because it is the last economic indicator to improve during a recovery.

In eight years of Bush, the average American got poorer. That is an appalling track record in itself- but it also made the effect of the Financial crisis much worse.

^ & ^^ Really? No backup for this? Gee, if Bush was so bad, why are the People going against the dems so vociferously now? Isn't the current mess still Bush's fault? All the Conservative People stupid and racist? Pfft. Losing arguments on both fronts. Sorry for you.

"the People"? You mean Fox worshippers, God botherers, and easily frightened sheep? Those people do have a voice and they may sway the election in Nov. but they are hardly "the People", there is no such thing as an unanimous voice in America. Diversity of opinion is what makes my country vibrant.

^ Guess you never had a private-sector job where you worked til the job was done and worked to make a profit. Poor you. Have you ever looked at how many people these big bad businesses hire, both directly and indirectly? How much they give to charity whether as a corp or as individual workers? How much tax they pay? How they contribute to the local economies? Check out how much non-for-profits and their admins make, and ask yourself what the diff is. You sound like other lefties who also hate banks and other such biz who refuse to have blood-sucking unions.

Small and medium sized businesses are the true driving force in my economy. They pay a fair share of taxes (unlike the Big Corporate Welfare Queens), don't lay off at the drop of hat, you know just so that all those VPs get their bonuses and golden parachutes in BigFatCo (Enron, AIG, Worldcomm, ad infinitum...). Small and medium sized businesses, those are the real workhorses.

A). I'm not affiliated solely with any particular ideology (left or right), I support good ideas, regardless of political stripe; and

B). I think unions have generally outlived their usefulness, in fact IMO they have become Frankenstein monsters just like their mortal enemies, the super corporations.
