And what about Bob Woolmer.... ? Perhaps raises new questions....
I was thinking the same thing this morning.

And what's with kamran being 'cleared' already??

If those 4 catches he dropped in Sydney weren't deliberate , then I'm Mary poppins..

The sooner cricket is bought under the control of the ECB, the better. Bloody rediculous having untrustworthy foreigners running England's game.

A change of captain does not guarantee a simple future for Pakistan after the betting scandal

How do you solve a problem like Shahid Afridi? On the face of it, the arrival of a fresh captain and five other players for the limited-overs matches is a chance for Pakistan to turn a corner on this tour. But Afridi has a checkered past to match some of his team-mates.
Pakistan cricket's wise heads made him one-day captain for the Australia tour last winter, but by the time they left in February Afridi had made the most astonishing attempt at ball-tampering most of us have seen, biting the ball in a one-day international in Perth. He was banned for two Twenty20 internationals. Those with longer memories tut-tutted and recalled his pitch-scuffing antics at Faisalabad's Iqbal Stadium in 2005, when, after bashing 92 from 85 balls, he tried to improve his team's chances of victory against England by replicating Michael Jackson's moonwalk on a spinner's length.
For all his faults, Afridi has never been shy of holding up his hand when he has stuffed up. Even those left slack-jawed by the irresponsibility of his batting during the Lord's Test defeat against Australia in July warmed to him after the game, when he admitted he was not cut out for the demands of the five-day game.
In retrospect, though, maybe there was more at work than ill-fitting whites. Pakistan's Express Tribune reported on Monday that Afridi had had doubts about the Majeed brothers' activities even before the News of the World's revelations. "Afridi always doubted Mazhar and his brother Azhar Majeed, and that's why he strictly prohibited his entry in the team hotel and asked all the fellow players to stay away from them," a team official told the paper, adding that it was only once Afridi returned home that contact was reestablished.
In a video leaked after the tour of Australia, in which Pakistan lost every single game in all three formats, Afridi was also suspicious of some in the squad. "As far as the fielding is concerned, we do very well in the practice sessions but we have a few players who perform well with the bat and then do not concentrate while fielding," he said. When the inquiry committee then asked if he thought any player deliberately tried to lose a match, he replied: "I have heard from others that such things exist but I do not know of any such player myself."
He has scored as many centuries (five) as Andrew Flintoff in 52 fewer Tests and taken 109 more one-day wickets than England's talismanic all-rounder, yet Afridi's volatile temperament has meant that he could never be considered one of the game's elite performers. Like the big gamblers who either clean up or go bust, there is no middle path with Afridi.
That was best illustrated in the World Twenty20 tournaments of 2007 and 2009. In the first, he was player of the competition, starring with bat and ball, but the sight of Irfan Pathan (who received, at the receiving end of many an Afridi sledge on the tour of Pakistan in 2006) at the top of the bowling mark appeared to unhinge him in the final against India. The first-ball dismissal was crucial in a nail-bitingly close game. Two years later, in England, his form with the bat was so dismal there was talk of his being dumped from the side. But Younis Khan – who, like Afridi, is a Pathan, a people from northern Pakistan – kept faith and was rewarded with two spellbinding performances in the semi-final and final, as South Africa and Sri Lanka were swept aside.
Not since Imran Khan and the two Ws, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, has a Pakistan cricketer been so adored. During the World Twenty20 last summer, chants of "Afridi, Afridi" were as common as "Pakistan zindabad", and he has admitted to being affected by the adulation. "While in the dressing room, I try to remain calm and think about building my innings," he said in a TV interview a few years ago. "But when I go out there, it's like hitting a wall of sound and I forget whatever we had discussed minutes earlier. I just try and smash every ball."
The 30-year-old, initially a fast bowler who so idolised Imran he switched to spin because "people told me I was chucking the ball", was born in the Khyber Agency. "My tribe is from the northern areas," he told Spin Cricket last year. "There's no law there, no governmental law, it's our own rules. It's very close to Afghanistan. In the tribe, in the Khyber Agency, no one's interested in cricket. They belong to the army or do business. In my village 12, 13-year-old guys are always walking about with guns." Had Afridi not become the first member of his tribe to play first-class cricket he, too, would have joined the army.
Nearly two decades ago, another Pathan, Imran, led Pakistan cricket to its finest hour. Last year, Younis led them to a second world title. Now, Afridi has the most arduous task of all, to lead a team from darkness without knowing where the light is.

so it's ball biting afridi to the rescue!!

I always thought younis khan was one of the more honest players..

Sorry, 12Call? I only asked a question. Mind your own if you don't like it.

I wonder if the NotW marked the notes they gave to the fixer? I say this because today it is being reported:

Salman Butt faced claims yesterday that he had £50,000 in cash stashed in his London hotel room which was seized by police when they questioned him on Saturday.
Butt, 25, insisted the money was for his sister’s marriage.
If this is from the sting, then it would be fairly easy to prove the allegations of his involvement.

Even notwithstanding that, I wonder if the English or Bacon Sarnie taxmen might decide they have an interest....

It seems the ICC is in Dubai now..

    December 28, 2009 11:56 IST

With Sharad Pawar set to become the next International Cricket Council president, the Board of Control for Cricket in India wants to take firm control over the ICC by shifting its headquarters from Dubai to Mumbai , according to a report.

According to a Daily Telegraph report, with India ruling the roost in international cricket by virtue of their financial might there is a possibility that the ICC headquarters may be shifted to Mumbai once Pawar succeeds David Morgan as ICC president in July 2010.

As per the report, the office block next to the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, where the BCCI is based, has already been earmarked as the next administrative centre of the ICC. The Bandra-Kurla complex, near the domestic airport, has also been kept as an alternative option.

But for that to happen a 7-3 majority of Test-playing nations have to endorse the move.
In October, the ICC, at its board meeting, floated the idea of returning to its historical home -- Lord's, but the move faces some tax problems associated with shifting back to the UK.

Even ICC president David Morgan admitted that Mumbai is an important centre for the ICC but a return to Lord's tops the priority list.

"It is now an open secret that the ICC board has proposed a return of its headquarters back to its historical home in London Morgan said.

"This came about at the October board meeting, when there was no mention of any other location. Although Mumbai is an important centre for cricket and business, the HQ task team is charged with examining the prospects of returning to Lord's," he added.

Meanwhile, the proposal to shift the ICC headquarters from Dubai to Mumbai has received stern opposition from former England Cricket Board chairman Lord MacLaurin, who feels the repercussions of such a move would be serious and could even affect major scheduling decisions.

"I would be very sad if the ICC moved to India. I think it was a tragedy when the ICC left Lord's, the home of cricket. I believe Gordon Brown when Chancellor was ready to make some tax concessions, but it didn't happen," Lord MacLaurin said.

"The repercussions from a move to India could be very serious. When I was ECB chairman I stipulated that England should always be able to play Australia every two years, and that is the sort of thing which could be affected," the former ECB chief said.

It could be that to many ICC members the prospect of visiting Mumbai just doesn't appeal to them, of course i could be totally wrong.

Asif’s ex-girlfriend claims he helped throw a series
    Jonathan Harwood
    AUGUST 31, 2010

Veena Malik says cricketer knew Pakistan would lose in Australia and visited bookies in Bangkok

The former girlfriend of cricketer Mohammad Asif has revealed that he told her the Pakistan team would not win a game during last year's tour of Australia - raising the possibility that players were paid to 'throw' an entire series.

Model-turned-actress Veena Malik also claimed that fast bowler Asif flew to Bangkok to see bookmakers just before the squad jetted to Australia last December and used servants' phones to speak to his connections in the gambling world.

Asif is one of several players being investigated over claims of match-rigging in relation to Pakistan's current tour of England following the News of the World expose on Sunday.

If true, Malik's claims appear to add weight to the suggestion that many of the Pakistani team have been involved in match-fixing. She told Pakistan's Express News network: "When Pakistan started losing in Australia, I jokingly said, 'For God's sake, win a match.' To this, he replied: 'We won't win anything until 2010'."

Pakistan lost every game of that tour including a Test that they appeared destined to win and which has been nicknamed the 'Miracle of Sydney' on account of Australia's seemingly remarkable comeback, having conceded a first innings lead of 206.

Malik said of Asif's trip to Bangkok: "He told me that he was offered $40,000. I advised him not to be part of such activities but he did not listen. Instead, he went ahead and demanded $200,000."

Malik (above) also claimed Asif had borrowed money from her as he fought a two-year ban for doping. She says that he never paid her back.

The four players implicated in the scandal - Asif, fellow bowler Mohammad Amir, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and captain Salman Butt - are unlikely to play any further part in Pakistan's tour. But the rest of the squad have travelled to Somerset for a match on Thursday.

I can't imagine Pakistan would be too happy to move it to India.

Any more than the Indians would like it in Islamabad.

    Pakistan CHEATS thrown off tour

Quite rightly these scumbags have been excluded:

The three Pakistan cricket players at the centre of a betting scandal have been axed from the remaining matches on the team's tour of England.

Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed confirmed today that Test captain Salman Butt, 18-year-old fast bowling sensation Mohammed Aamer and bowler Mohammad Asif will play no further part on the tour.

Of course the Pakis won't admit they've suspended them, just that they're "not in the right frame of mind to play".

    Pffft.

Pakistan commissioner believes trio were "set-up"

High Commissioner: 'Video could have been filmed after the no balls'

The three Pakistan cricketers accused of corruption may have been set up, according to the country's high commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan. When asked whether Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, who are being investigated for spot-fixing, had been framed, Hasan replied: "Yes."
Hasan claims the News of the World video allegedly exposing the scandal may have been made after the incident.
However, the paper said it "refuses to respond to such ludicrous allegations".
The three cricketers Hasan referred to - now at the centre of a police investigation into allegations Asif and Amir deliberately bowled no-balls during the fourth Test at Lord's - will miss the rest of their country's tour of England.
Before stating that he believed the players may have been framed, Hasan earlier on Thursday said: "The players have voluntarily offered not to be included. They want to clear their names first.
"They are innocent and they are defending their innocence."

WE'D HAVE DONE IT FOR A TENNER, SAY THOUSANDS OF AWFUL CRICKETERS
CRICKETERS across England have urged match-fixers to contact them the next time they need somebody to be bad at bowling.
Thousands of county players, semi-professionals and pub team disasters say that for the price of a round at their local they can make it look it very convincing.

Martin Bishop, captain of the Marquis of Granby, currently third from bottom of the Hertfordshire Pub League, said: "If you want someone to make a series of basic errors then probably best not to ask a world class professional who's been selected on the basis that he knows what he's doing.

"If I was a match-fixer I would be bribing a couple of thousand lads a week and then making bets in the pub car park. No-one would have the faintest idea."

He added: "In Hertfordshire, if someone bowls 23 no balls in a row, it's known as a 'Martin Bishop'.
"The outcry came after some fearless News of the World reporters showed that some people might be prepared to do something during a sports match that means nothing, affecting a result that changes nothing in return for more money than their family has earned in 16 generations.

Dr Bill McKay, from Reading University, said: "It's like offering Emile Heskey nine million quid to carry on being Emile Heskey.

Meanwhile millions of people across Britain last night learned that defrauding a bookmaker is illegal and then immediately demanded to know why.......
