US Ambassador's Daughter Dies In Balcony Fall

Daughter of US Ambassador to Thailand dies in balcony fall

The 17-year-old daughter of the US Ambassador to Thailand accidentally fell to her death from the window of an apartment block near the Empire State Building in New York.

Nicole John was at a party when she fell to her death

Nicole John fell from a 25th floor flat where she was attending a party and was killed instantly, according to police.

A 25-year-old man faces charges of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Miss John was believed to have been part of a group enjoying a private party at Herald Square Towers flats in Manhattan.

According to witnesses the group arrived there shortly before 4am after returning from a nightclub.

Miss John fell to her death at about 4.15am and her body was found on a ledge on the third floor.

According to one early witness report she was leaning out the window to get some air and fell. Another report suggested she was on a ledge which did not have a railing.

Eric John, her father, has been the US Ambassador to Thailand since 2007 and she went to high school in Bangkok.

Her father was previously Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia.

He spent 13 years in Seoul and is one of the US State Department’s leading experts on Korean affairs, and speaks Korean and Vietnamese.

Ditto, but that's likely to happen only if she was clean.

What a tragic accident. When you think back you realize how lucky you were to survive the period of, I don't know, 16 - 25, when you were doing lots of really stupid things that could have easily ended very badly. When I was 17 I was maybe not cool enough to stagger home from a night club at 4am. But I more than made up for that a bit later.

RIP Nicole John, and my condolences.

Thats not the usual photo you'd expect family/friends to release to the Press to illustrate a story like this.

^^^ true, looks like a facebook type photo.

    sad story.

    a rich kid's lifestyle.
out all hours is the lifestyle of most teens, that she had a priveledged background is irrelevant to this story.

some people seem to take pleasure when misfortune strikes the successful, the lucky, or the rich.

Police: Ambassador's daughter had been drinking before fatal plunge
    August 27, 2010

NEW YORK : Police in New York are looking into the death of a 17-year-old girl whose father is the U.S. ambassador to Thailand.

They say the girl had been in a top-floor apartment in a 25-story building, and that she had taken off her shoes and stepped out onto the ledge with a camera.

She then fell more than 20 stories to her death. Police think it was an accident.

Nicole John was believed to have been drinking.

And the 25-year-old man who rents the apartment has been arrested on charges of unlawful dealing with a minor.

Police say she and others had been out at a Manhattan club, and had left at around 2 a.m. to go to the apartment near the Empire State Building.

They say she had a fake ID that made it seem she was of drinking age.

Her father, Eric John, was appointed U.S. ambassador to Thailand in 2007.

What a crock! 25 year guy old meets her in Manhattan Club where legal drinking age is 21. She gets in the club with a false ID, follows a group to his apartment and the cops arrest the poor bugger for "unlawful dealing with a minor".

She does look a lot like she's older than 17 dressed like that. I see the comments and wonder how old the lass flashing her tits in the forum banner ad is.
    Just for comparison like.

    of course we do.
When we see priviledged "elite" act foolish like that while most people struggles for survival , we can't help laughing and thinking how much this "elite" sits at the top just because was borned there.

You may have a point, antidepressants can cause suicidal tendencies in teenagers and mixing alcohol into the equation..

Teen Suicide Risk Similar Among Antidepressants - CBS News

...Researchers say the finding supports the FDA's current "black box" warning on all antidepressants detailing the increased risk of suicide attempts and suicides in children and teens who start to take the drugs. A "black box" warning is the FDA's most severe warning label.

Previous studies have shown that children and teenagers who begin to use SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antidepressants may have an increase in suicidal thoughts and behaviors,

And I kinda have the same thoughts when I see Caucasian men with Asian women,

    Insecure little-dick meets gold-digging sucubus.

I know, unfair generalization, but true enough of the time to lend it some merit.

[QUOTE] <H1 sizcache="18" sizset="121">Diplomat's daughter's whirlwind life was one big binge

She had the life that even a "Gossip Girl" would envy -- exotic beauty, privilege and a limitless future.

But rather than launch a lucrative career in her two passions, modeling and photography, Nicole John -- the foxy, flirty, 17-year-old daughter of the US ambassador to Thailand -- plunged to her death in Midtown after a final night of extreme partying.

John had a butler at her disposal. She traveled on a whim, and hobnobbed with the most influential people in the world with her diplomat dad and strikingly gorgeous Korean-born mother, a chef and linguist.

THAI ONE ON: Nicole John (with ambassador dad Eric, above) hit the beach in Phuket, Thailand, and the teen also liked to hit the bottle.

The stunning John dabbled in modeling while living in Thailand. She also loved photography, dedicating much of her blog to images she loved -- including an eerie photo of a ghostly woman ascending into the sky.

John arrived in New York City a week ago to attend Parsons
The New School for Design, where classes are set to begin Monday.

"Oh New York City, how I've dreamt of you since I was little. One more month and you're all mine," she wrote earlier this summer after graduating from the International School in Bangkok.

The artistic beauty grew up in Fairfax, Va., outside Washington, with her older brother Adam. They attended top schools and earned stellar grades.

Nicole's latest return stateside, though, got off to a rocky start last month with a wild weekend in DC.

"Friday night went to a house party and played beer pong, etc, got shwasted/cross-faded," she wrote on July 20 on her blog, called "melancholysouls."

"Saturdayyy went clubbing which was awesome getting VIP treatment, up until the part where I'm trying to hail a cab at 3 am, really really drunk, and these three ghetto black people passing snatch my new
iPhone 4 out of my hand and ran away."

She then bragged about how the police "didn't care" that she wasn't 21.
"They were on my side. SO aside from getting robbed, it was a goooood weekend. Eventful, to say the least."

Nights like that were nothing new for John, who went to great lengths to document on a blog her rampant alcohol and drug abuse -- destructive vices she picked up attending high school in Bangkok.

Her prolific postings document an endless spree of shopping, clubbing and excessive partying.

"Whaaaaaat a f--kin' EPIC weekend. Intoxication for about 40 hours straight, starting Friday night. I never use the word epic, but it is actually appropriate this time," she wrote on her Tumblr blog just two weeks ago.

"So f--king drunk. And it's so f--king great," she wrote in another post. "I remember one time I was shwasted and I apparently tried to smoke a french fry."
"For future reference, xanax and vodka do not mix," she later blogged.

Elise Alohilani Breschini, a classmate in Bangkok, said John "was a really talented artist and was always doing her own thing since I've known her.

"I saw her this summer at a couple of clubs. She's always been very nice to me, so this news came as a complete shock. She really had a promising life ahead of her."

Getting into clubs was something that came easily to John, which may be why fellow students were asking her for advice on fake IDs on her blog.

"As long as the ID is pretty legit looking it should be okay. It's also easier if you're a girl, lol," she responded to one query.

"I have a Brazilian ID that was made here in NYC and it's really good, it's never been rejected."

When not partying, John was passionate about painting, drawing and photography. But even the simplest hobbies could not hide her spoiled existence.
When asked where she got her photos developed in Bangkok, she wrote that she sends "her butler to get them developed for me."

I never partied with alcohol or drugs as a teenager and I was always home at a decent hour while in high school. Why? Because my parents wouldn't allow otherwise. My Mom was always home making sure we didn't do really stupid things like walking on a ledge dead drunk. This tragedy can be laid squarely on the feet of the parents. The rest of the comments on this blog are bizzare.

As a former Parsons instructor, she must have been smart and talented, a hell of a lot more than most people commenting here who spend their days waiting to spew.

To that, add young. Respect at least that.

It's harder on these kids then most people here realize, they aren't fully accepted by the Asians, and aren't accepted in the US or any other country. They are in perpetual limbo, it worse for males, but it can be a pain for girls too.

Must be really hard to have a personal butler and be able to travel anywhere at whim (diplomatic passport ?). Poor girl. Next time I have to take a plane to beg another tourist visa I will think how fortunate I am compared to her.
