Russians: Iran Nuke Plant to Open Next Week

    Where are the anti-nuke folks?

MOSCOW – MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's nuclear agency said Friday that it will load fuel into Iran's first nuclear power plant next week, defying U.S. calls to hold off the start of the launch.
Rosatom spokesman Sergei Novikov said Friday that uranium fuel shipped by Russia will be loaded into the Bushehr reactor on Aug. 21, beginning the startup process.
"From that moment the Bushehr plant will be officially considered a nuclear-energy installation," he told The Associated Press.
The United States has called for Russia to delay the startup until Iran proves that it's not developing nuclear weapons. Russian officials said that the latest U.N. sanctions against Iran won't affect the Bushehr project.
Russia signed a $1 billion contract in 1995 for building the Bushehr plant, but it has dragged its feet on completing the project for years.
Moscow has cited technical reasons for the delays, but analysts say Moscow has used the project to press Iran to ease its defiance over its nuclear program.
Novikov said that Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko will travel to Bushehr in southern Iran for the Aug. 21 ceremony, which will also be attended by the Iranian Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi, who also heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said in March that the Bushehr plant would begin operating this summer. Some Iranian lawmakers have accused Russia of delaying the project under the Western pressure.

Why should any nation have to tolerate outsiders telling them what they can or cannot do within their own borders. The arrogance of America is annoying, but then it's nothing new that Washington takes its orders from Tel Aviv.

Iran unlike Israel and the US have built a nuclear plant solely for peaceful purposes as in for energy and not to make and use bombs as is their right.

I will place a bet with you Jet for an amount of money of your choice that Israel will fire/drop a nuclear bomb before any muslim country does.

You're chomping at the bit for such an improbable act, aren't ya? 'Tis a better chance that Iran has/had no intentions of such war-like posturing. The game of deepened propaganda plants it's seeds.

If the "arrogance" of America annoys you, it should be quite a treat to have your life run from Saudi Arabia or some other Islamic fundamentalist stronghold. That is the future we are headed for, if we continue on the present course.

The good old USA is in the process of setting up a nuclear capability in Vietnam to counter Chinas political influence in SE Asia. Talk about double standards.

Whatever happened to the communist peril in Vietnam where 60,000 US servicemen died and millions of Vietnamese were slaughtered in the name of freedom US style?

Makes a mockery of the high moral ground stand USA is taking against Iran.

US-Vietnam nuclear talks heighten frictions with China
"US-Vietnam nuclear talks heighten frictions with China

    By Peter Symonds
    9 August 2010

In a move that will further raise regional tensions, the US is conducting negotiations with Vietnam over a deal to allow the purchase of nuclear fuel, as well as American nuclear technology and reactors. The talks, details of which were leaked to the US media last week, are another sign that the Obama administration is engaged in an aggressive strategy of countering Chinese influence throughout the Asian region."

Hilarious. The lefties and US bashers always show up at these nuke parties. Anyone who thinks Iran is not going further to get a more enriched uranium for bombs from Russia is cuckoo, IMO (oh, are the Ruskie bomb info less effective that the US's?). Iran detest Israel and thinks obama is a useless tit (true).

You want to start another war in Iraq Jet? Then put your money where your mouth is and go fight it instead of sitting in your comfortable armchair and wishing to send thousands of young men (and women) to their deaths.

It is widely accepted that Israel has over 200 nuclear missiles at the ready. Something USA condones and supports. And while USA is purporting to support nuclear disarmament they are now involved in a process to give their old adversary, Vietnam a nuclear capability to fend off Chinas influence in the SE Asia sphere. Just how hypocritical is that?

Its all about expanding the US economic empire, even while the economy at home is crumbling. This country can have nukes and that country cant because its in USAs geopolitical economic interests.

This high moral ground about who can have nukes and who cant according to the USA is a bag of shit.

But when the war comes Jet I hope you and your ilk are going to to be up there in the front line, or will you and your type be back home watching it all on TV while other people die?

Too funny, Pandy. I'm not a soldier but I support the troops. You want North Korea and Iran to have nukes? Strategy is complex and obviously beyond your comprehension. Befriending enemies, duping friends, intrigue, infiltration, spies...this sh*t has been going on for centuries. Get a brain.

^ Keep your bait for a panama hat groupie. If Israel sees a real threat, they won't wait for the UN or the EU to approve their decision. That's why I like Israel. Why wait for the PC wusses? Fek, by the time they finished their meetings, Israel would be a crater. Mind, an Iranian attack might take out Palestine, too, so maybe not such a bad idea.

    'Leak' delays Iran nuke plant
    4/10/2010

Iran's atomic chief has said a small leak in a pool beside the Bushehr reactor has delayed the start-up of the nuclear plant, the official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

However, Ali Akbar Salehi ruled out any links between the delayed launch and a computer worm which analysts say may have been designed to target the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities.

"During the washing process a small leak was seen in a pool next to the reactor and it was stopped. The leak delayed activities for a few days,'' Salehi told IRNA.

He did not elaborate further on the leak, but added that "the core of the reactor is working very well.''

Salehi had said on Wednesday the country's first nuclear power plant would be ready to generate electricity by January _ two months later than previously announced.

He had said the process of placing fuel rods in the Russian-built Bushehr facility would be completed by the "middle of'' the Iranian month of Aban, around November 7.

Iran began loading the Russian-supplied fuel rods on August 21, and Ali Shirzadian, spokesman for the atomic body, said at the time the plant would be connected to the national grid by the end of October or early November.

Salehi, in an interview with Al-Alam television on August 31, blamed the delays on Bushehr's "severe hot weather'' and safety concerns, adding that the fuel loading was being done during the night.

Iranian officials have acknowledged that the computer worm Stuxnet is mutating and wreaking havoc on computerised industrial equipment in the country, where around 30,000 IP addresses were reportedly infected.

On Sunday the deputy industry minister was reported as saying its industrial computers have now been cleaned of the virus.

Officials have denied the Bushehr nuclear plant was among the addresses penetrated by the worm, but they have said that the personal computers of personnel at the facility were infected.

Salehi told IRNA on Monday the delayed fuel transfer to the facility "has nothing to do with this virus.''

Iran says it needs the Bushehr plant, which had been under construction since the 1970s and was finally finished by Russia, to meet growing demand for electricity.

But the international community widely believes that Iran's atomic activities mask a covert nuclear weapons programme, a charge Tehran denies.

Iran is under four sets of United Nations sanctions over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, the process which can be used to make nuclear fuel but also the fissile core of an atom bomb in highly purified forms.
