Gunman kills eight at Connecticut beer warehouse

An employee at a beer warehouse killed eight people before turning the gun on himself when he found out her was about to lose his job.

The gunman murdered eight of his colleagues before committing suicide after he was caught on video stealing beer from the distributorship where he worked.

Between 50 and 70 people were in the warehouse in the town of Manchester, Connecticut when the gunman opened fire, said Brett Hollander, whose family owns the distributorship in the United States.



"There was a guy that was supposed to, was asked to resign - to come in to resign - and chose not to and shot my cousin and my co-workers," said Mr Hollander.
A company executive named the gunman as Omar Thornton.
After shooting his co-workers, Mr Thornton called his mother, according to Joanne Hannah, the mother of Thornton's girlfriend.
"He wanted to say goodbye and he loved everybody," said Joanne Hannah.
Mrs Hannah said Thornton had complained of racial harassment and said he found a picture of a noose and a racial epithet written on a bathroom wall.
But a union official said Thornton had not filed a complaint of racism to the union or any government agency.
Thornton had been caught on videotape stealing beer from Hartford Distributors and was supposed to meet with company officials when the shootings began.
"It's got nothing to do with race," said company official Christopher Roos. "This is a disgruntled employee who shot a bunch of people."
The rampage was the deadliest in the United States since 13 people were fatally shot at Fort Hood, Texas, last November.
A military psychiatrist is charged with 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in that case.

Heard on the radio the mother of his girlfriend blaming his supervisors and the teamsters for not protecting him from being fired for stealing and this is why he cracked WTF!!

I bet he opted out of his swimming lessons when he was 10....No control.

Of course, if each student was given a gun this would probably be less.

If you read the story you would see that he is dead. He came in ready to shoot. The others were not ready, so he would have still gotten off more shots and in a situation such as that if others had guns they would have been just as likely to shot someone else not him.

One of the ironies is that this happened less than 10 miles from the old Colt factory.

I don't agree. If a few others there had guns they would have known where to aim and he might have been put down before killing eight people. When the fireing starts most people run away or hit the deck so you simply need to aim at the one standing in the clearing holdng the gun.

so more people could have dies then. 16 could have died rather then 8
