Gunman kills 8 at Connecticut warehouse

Gunman kills eight at Connecticut beer warehouse

An employee at a beer warehouse killed eight people before turning the gun on himself when he found out her was about to lose his job.

Omar Thornton murdered eight of his colleagues before committing suicide

The gunman murdered eight of his colleagues before committing suicide after he was caught on video stealing beer from the distributorship where he worked.

Between 50 and 70 people were in the warehouse in the town of Manchester, Connecticut when the gunman opened fire, said Brett Hollander, whose family owns the distributorship in the United States.

"There was a guy that was supposed to, was asked to resign - to come in to resign - and chose not to and shot my cousin and my co-workers," said Mr Hollander.
A company executive named the gunman as Omar Thornton.
After shooting his co-workers, Mr Thornton called his mother, according to Joanne Hannah, the mother of Thornton's girlfriend.
"He wanted to say goodbye and he loved everybody," said Joanne Hannah.
Mrs Hannah said Thornton had complained of racial harassment and said he found a picture of a noose and a racial epithet written on a bathroom wall.
But a union official said Thornton had not filed a complaint of racism to the union or any government agency.
Thornton had been caught on videotape stealing beer from Hartford Distributors and was supposed to meet with company officials when the shootings began.
"It's got nothing to do with race," said company official Christopher Roos. "This is a disgruntled employee who shot a bunch of people."
The rampage was the deadliest in the United States since 13 people were fatally shot at Fort Hood, Texas, last November.
A military psychiatrist is charged with 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in that case.

On the flip side, if another person was armed, the guy would have been shot dead.

Impossible to understand. If they had terminated him over something petty or silly, I could understand his rage (but of course not the violence), but they had him on video stealing. When you get fired for that you have no one to be angry at but yourself.

Goes back to the old storey that the best way to stop any airliner being hijacked is to hand out guns to all the passengers when boarding.

    America the great.

    Beautiful gun culture they've evolved.

How many public gun massacres have they racked up now over the past 20 years?

Interesting to see the amount of schools shootings there's been, compared to the rest of the world.

School shooting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I didn't count, but looks like about 3/4s of the world's school massacres happen in the good ol' USA.

Of course, if each student was given a gun this would probably be less.

It really is a country to pity.

If you read the story you would see that he is dead. He came in ready to shoot. The others were not ready, so he would have still gotten off more shots and in a situation such as that if others had guns they would have been just as likely to shot someone else not him.

One of the ironies is that this happened less than 10 miles from the old Colt factory.

I don't agree. If a few others there had guns they would have known where to aim and he might have been put down before killing eight people. When the fireing starts most people run away or hit the deck so you simply need to aim at the one standing in the clearing holdng the gun.

Went to a buddy of mine's jewelry store in LA yesterday morning, had a cup of coffee with him and decided I needed more, so walked down to the beach to have breakfast. It turned out that 10 minutes after a left a guy walked in pretending to be looking for wedding rings, then pulled out a pistol and stuck it in my friend's face. Tied him up and gagged him (doing a poor job of it, btw- brought a firearm but forgot a hammer, couldn't crack the display cases). Scared the daylights out of my friend but didn't shoot him. My friend could surely have installed better security equipment, but having a firearm wouldn't have helped him- it's the guy who has his out first that wins, and that is usually the crook- and may have been a cause for more trouble, not to mention another item stolen.

I remember the memo that got circulated within two weeks of the Edmond, Oklahoma incident (memo to the grunts in the public sector). 'No jokes or using the term "going postal".
Even though this link said the term was first cited in 1993(?).

It's the blacks you know, they're the reason why the good 'ol NRA does so well.

The National Rifleman Association's KOOKY KIDZ KORNER! - chickenhead.com

Pretend you and your friends are clowning around in the playground after a grueling day of enduring pinko liberal verbal diarrhea spewing forth from the mouth of some diseased homo intellectual teacher. In the morning, you had stowed your weapons beneath nearby shrubbery before arriving on campus, and now you're ready for your daily after-school round of live-fire Capture the Flag. Now while you're engaged in this harmless diversion, let's imagine that a small platoon of heavily-armed Arab terrorists arrives on the scene, intent on carrying out a ritualistic mass suicide bombing which will effectively decimate both the school and a surrounding 4 block radius blast zone. To make things even more difficult, said Arabs are sporting the latest in space-aged kevlar soft armor. It's up to YOU and your friends to diffuse this threat to Norman Rockwell Democracy - so what ammunition do you want in that weapon of yours??!!
Well, to start with, you're going to want to assume that your bullets must expand reliably (no matter what your targets are wearing), still clearing a minimum of eight to ten inches of flesh. This will ensure adequate penetration to make contact with the primary life-giving organs of those OPEC bastards.
