People bare their bottom to 'Moon Amtrak’
Hundreds of people bared their bottoms at US trains for the annual “Mooning Amtrak” celebration.

The Californian city of Laguna Niguel has hosted the annual event for the last 30 years where crowds line a road along railway tracks and drop their trousers or hoist up their skirts every time an Amtrak, or Metrolink, train passes.
According to tradition, the ritual began after a bar room bet in 1979, where a drinker at the Mugs Away Saloon, which is directly across the road from the railway, offered to buy a drink for anyone who would run outside and moon the next train. The mooning now attracts people from all over the US and has become a day full of drinking and mooning.


City officials told mooning enthusiasts to avoid the event this year, after trouble in 2008, when up to 10,000 people came to moon the trains, resulting in surging crowds and public drunkenness.
This year’s event was considerably quieter after the Orange County Sheriff’s department clamped down on anti-social behaviour. People bare their bottom to 'Moon Amtrak’ - Telegraph
