Another British woman cries wolf over false rape accusation

Student jailed over false rape claim made 'so she could get more time to do her homework'

    By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 9:26 AM on 5th July 2010 Jailed: Temitope Adenugba will spend 18 months behind bars for falsely accusing a cleaner of raping her in an effort to get an extension on her course work

A student has been jailed for 18 months for falsely claiming a cleaner had raped her - so she could get an extension on her university course work.
Temitope Adenugba, 24, was struggling to meet a deadline whilst studying at Oxford Brookes University last year.
She phoned police to tell them she had been abused as a child, before complaining she had also been subjected to a serious sexual assault as she slept in her university digs.
When officers attended her halls of residence to take a statement, Adenugba pointed at cleaner Kunle Ogunmola and said: 'Can't talk here, that's the man who raped me.'

Mr Ogunmola was arrested, before a subsequent police investigation exposed a catalogue of lies and her claims later proved to be complete fantasy.
The lie was created in a bid to get an extension on her end-of-term coursework, the court heard.
Sentencing her to 18 months in prison at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, Recorder Rabinder Singh said: 'It's extremely easy to make an allegation of rape when there's no foundation whatsoever.
'It's likely to have the perverse impact of guilty men walking free.'
The court heard that police attended Clive Booth Halls of residence, Oxford, on May 21 last year after she reported historic abuse against her as a child.

Adenugba was a student at Oxford Brookes University when she made the false allegations

Officers interviewed her but were stunned when she told them Mr Ogunmola had used a key to get into her room on April 13 and raped her.
A full police investigation was launched and the cleaner was quizzed and later arrested.
But police found any keys taken by Mr Ogunmola had been returned by April 12 and would not have given him access to her room at any time.
Adenugba had also alleged her victim had been harassing her with phone calls, but analysis of both parties' mobile phones showed this to be a lie.
Scientific examination of her pyjamas also revealed no link to Mr Ogunmola.
Mr Walsh added that Adenugba had made a fictitious rape complaint against a previous partner in October 2006.
Walter Scott, mitigating, said his client had made the claim against Mr Ogunmola after an earlier false allegation of harassment against the same man 'didn't have the desired effect of extending her time to do her coursework'.
He added: 'She was not seeking to directly attack the victim, he was chosen rather arbitrarily.'

I cannot think of a more evil thing to do than falsely accuse someone of a crime. Seems to be done fairly often, but usually the incentive is money. Can you imagine the rage you would feel at being locked up for something you did not do?

It's not uncommon for a woman to falsely accuse someone of rape and for a variety of differing reasons. Probably one of the reasons rape convictions are so notoriously low in Blighty. It's a hard one to prove at the best of times and cases like this don't make it any easier for the police.
It's a really nasty thing to do to a person and even if the actual truth does come out the stigma associated with the accusation hangs over the innocent guy's head for so many years, kind of guilt by accusation as far as much of public are concerned.
Anyway with a nice Nigerian name like Temitope Adenugba what do you expect.
    It wasn't me!

bloke I know was wrongly accused of rape, it really caused him severe problems, he was held in police custody for 48 hours and the ensuing period ead to a severe family breakdown, while I've no sympathy for genuine rapists, cases like this should be publicised to deter the people in the uk who are ripping the back out of the place under a smog of political correctness

Send the bitch back to Nigeria. They have a nice way of dealing with her type. One of the few cases where Islamic law might have some valid application. How about a clitoridectomy for the Zulu princess?

Rape is a power thing. Little old ladies get raped, too. It's not just beauty queens & supermodels who qualify.

What she did was sick, but I still find this comment totally uncalled for.

Totally agree, to falsely accuse someone of any crime, particularly a sexual one is one of the lowest things you can do. Even when disproved, mud sticks. Very sad. It's also a low thing to do, because girls who have genuinely been raped are less likely to come forward or be believed.

"Not uncommon" means that its quite well known that females play the "victim" for their own purposes. In this case there was clear evidence available to get an admission out of her. In a lot of cases where its a "he said/she said" scenario, the evidence isn't strong enough to achieve a conviction and the police/legal system is content enough to dismiss the allegations and leave it at that and being the reason why you want see any real "figures". Unfortunately in these sort of situations, the "burden of proof" gets blurred and its usually the accused being required to produce evidence to counter the allegations. Courts will normally take the "safe route" for example in domestic violence where they will favour the complainant. In Qld, AUS the complainant only has to show an apprehension of violence which is a state of mind. Women alleging child abuse when child custody cases aren't going their way etc etc.

Yes, Sdgit is right, its not uncommon.

Maybe a more fitting sentence would be to make the accuser of false rape claims spend their time in jail servicing male inmates at $10 a pop with proceeds going to the victim. 10 hours a day, 20 minute session with a 5 minute break between each and a 30 minute lunch break

Really? While I would never deny that some women do exactly that, I think this statement (and much of your argument, above) is a vast overgeneralisation.

That's why I asked for a more precise definition. People do tend to generalise and I was more interested in statistics.

All women would do it if they thought they would get away with it. That's why the police a few decades ago didn't take women's complaints seriously. They knew most of them are lying manipulative bitches. In today's PC world British men have been turned in to shaking little girls scared that their bitches will make a complaint to the police.

I like Thailand. If the missus pisses you off, slap her. Everyone will understand.

I've heard rumours that there was an honest one who lived in England, but nothing proven.

Given its quite rare to get someone quite so banged to rights as this 'lady'; I would have thought a deterrence sentence should have been given. Something more like what the man would have got if he had been convicted; 5-10 years

Women shouldn't be punished the same as men but they should have more rights otherwise a fat ugly lesbian bitch will stand up and call you sexist. Everyone will accept and support this accusation because British men are now wimps.

Excuse me, but if women want ten years or more for rapists (acceptable to me), they can fucking well have ten years or more for trying jail an innocent man for that long. The sentences are supposed to be deterrents.

Quid Pro Quo and all that.
