Groundbreaking T.25 city car unveiled (quite impressive!!!)

    Groundbreaking T.25 city car unveiled

Gordon Murray's eagerly anticipated T.25 city car has finally been unveiled in full. It makes its debut today (28 June 2010) at the Smith School's World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment in Oxford.

The city car is around half the weight of a MINI and smaller than a Smart Fortwo, but groundbreaking because it sits three people within that tiny space. Two passengers sit either side of the central driver.

Driver and passengers all get in via a front-hinged canopy incorporating the windscreen, making access easier in tight spaces. Three T.25s can park side-by-side in a traditional parking space.

The driver sits centrally behind a simple instrument layout, with buttons on the dash to control the automatic gearbox, heating and lights. Murray promises the car will be fun to drive, despite its tall, thin shape and gawky looks.

The rear mounted 660cc three-cylinder engine develops 51bhp and 42lb.ft of torque. It emits 86g/km of CO2 and returns 74mpg on the combined cycle.
But it's the manufacturing process - called iStream - that really makes the car so environmentally sound. The space and energy required for the production line is around 20 percent of a regular factory's, dramatically cutting the car's cost and carbon footprint.

Production will begin in the UK in 2012, and though there's no word on pricing yet, the T.25 is set to become one of the cheapest new cars on sale.

    Hardly
The big difference is the way it is manufactured which makes it environmentally friendly and cheap.

Gordon Murray is a very talented designer but he has produced one or two ghastly mistakes in the past.
Have to wait for a proper road test review before making a decision on this one.
