A burglar was trapped in a headlock by a 20-stone amateur wrestler after breaking into his home.

Lee Christie, 38, found himself confronted by amateur fighter Adam Kalinowski, 37, as he tried to steal a laptop computer.
Mr Kalinowski, a father-of-one, floored the hapless intruder and held him in a headlock until the police arrived.
Christie, who is 6ft 2ins and built like a rugby player, was left in tears as he struggled to free himself from the hold and begged "Leave me alone."
He was sentenced to two years in jail after he admitted burgling the house in Earlsdon, near Coventry, Warwickshire.
After the hearing Mr Kalinowski, a factory worker, who is originally from Poland, said: "I come home and the door is broken.
"I see the man, I mean this guy is big, and I do not know what he was doing there or what was in the bag, maybe a knife?
"Maybe it was the adrenaline, but I was not scared because this is my house, my castle as you say in England.
"He looked at me, said "Oh ----" and pushed me on to the wall so I gave him a kick in the stomach and he slowed down.
"I know how to wrestle, I like fighting sports, so I got him in a Nelson. He was trying to get up so I have to punch him in the head.
"My neighbour called the police and I held him until they came. He was crying, saying "leave me alone" but he was lucky I did not kill him because of how I felt at the time.
"He was stealing my son's laptop, but I am not a rich man. We are in bad times, a recession. People in this country they have to stick together, look out for each other."
Christie, of Tile Hill, Coventry, was jailed after admitting the mid-morning break-in at the house in April this year.
He avoided a three-year jail term because his last burglary was committed more than ten years ago, before new sentencing powers came into force.
In mitigation the court heard Christie had been out of trouble for several years, was not on bail at the time of the offence and had tested negative for drink and drugs at the police station.
Judge Marten Coates said: "It's a good ten years since you have been in trouble. It's a pity to see you returning on this occasion."

Well said. If the guy was actually English saying that, he'd probably get charges filed against him.

If it had been in Australia the perp would have got a settlement of around 1/2 a million and the householder would have got 3 years for deprivation of liberty , assault and GB.

It seems that some people aren't familiar with the concept of "reasonable force" as it applies to self-defence. On the facts as read from the article clearly in this case the reasonable force test would be met so if's/couldve's/would've's or otherwise based around his nationality and where it occured are both incorrect and irrelevant.

From my last few years in London the general advice from the met police regarding catching black burglars was to give them a hiding if you could, and if they stayed around, the police would claim resisting arrest, etc.

This based on the fact that most of plod were totally pissed off with the fact that the majority of them would go up in front of a magistrate and be let off on the basis of their race and the "prejudice" they had to face, so it was the only effective deterrent.

    Sad but true.

Earlsdon is right in the middle of Cov and one of the better areas and also a big student place for people attending Warwick Uni.

Tile Hill as on the whole a shit hole and this smack head prick got what he deserved although the Pole should have properly filled him in rather than just getting him in a headlock.

Good to see that for once the Old Bill didn't do anything against the chap for defending his home.

Large presence of Poles now in Cov and by and large they are a group of hard working, hard drinking people who have integrated well. Oh and some of the birds are stunning.
