Woman Accused Of Marrying Multiple Servicemen Sought
SAN DIEGO -- A nationwide search is under way for a woman accused of marrying and then scamming military servicemen, including several in the San Diego area.
Bobbi Ann Finley, who authorities said has at least 20 aliases, is accused of traveling around the country, marrying at least 11 men and scamming more than 40.According to authorities, Finley usually targets young military men and marries them prior to their deployment.
Once deployed, Katie Wegg, the mother of one Finley's alleged victims, said Finley drains their bank accounts and maxes out their credit cards.
Former sailor Shad Bauers, an electrician now living in Santee, was Finley's second husband and first met her in 1994.
"She was like, 'Oh! Why don't we get married?' After only a few weeks, I went, 'OK, why not?' I would get more money from the military so we did," said Bauers.
However, Bauers soon found trouble in what he thought was paradise."When I'd go out to sea, she'd drive my truck everywhere.
In a couple of weeks, she'd put 2,000 or 3,000 miles on my truck," said Bauers.
When he had second thoughts about the marriage, Bauers said, "I was like, 'What's going on here?'
Found out she was lying about few other things. I said, 'OK, that's it, I'm leaving.'"
While Bauers' marriage lasted a few months, it was longer than many of Finley's other unions, according to Wegg.
Wegg said she found evidence of 27 marriages, possibly as many as 39.
She also believes Finley had nine children, including one she thinks might be her granddaughter.
Four years after marrying Bauers, Finley married Shane Cheesman in Ft. Hood, Texas."
I got married on Monday … following weekend, she was gone," said Cheesman.
Cheesman's bank account was emptied and his credit cards were taken to the limit.
By then, military police were aware of Finley's actions."MPs got a hold of me and tell me she was still married to seven other service members," said Cheesman.
According to authorities, Finley's stories were all very similar, including a claim of being pregnant after a date rape and the possible inheritance of $500,000.
"She was a pretty girl … [i] can't believe she's still getting away with it," said Bauers.
Finley has warrants waiting in at least three states, and the Army has an active investigation.
Bauers said he has moved on, but he thinks Finley should go to jail.
Another former husband, ex-Marine Jacob Anderson, was apparently Finley's first husband.
Anderson, who now lives in Oceanside, told 10News he and Finley were married in late 1993, but the union was annulled six months later.
He said he hoped she would have cleaned up her life and he is not interested in seeing her behind bars.
