28 wedding guests electrocuted in India

New Delhi, India (CNN) -- Twenty-eight wedding guests were electrocuted Friday as an overhead cable came in contact with their bus in central India, police said.

Twenty-three women, three men and two children died. Five passengers jumped to safety and suffered minor injuries. The bus driver was not injured.

The high-voltage wire touched an iron wardrobe on the roof of the bus as it stopped at Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh state, said top district administrator K.K. Khare.

As passengers began stepping down while holding the steel railings, the current passed to the ground to cause a jolting electric shock in the bus, Khare said.

Guess the lesson is not to put your iron wardrobe on the bus roof.

I'll have to admit I know little of electrical physics, would the bus carry the current until someone makes the earth connection when they get off, or would the electrical wire still have to be in contact at the time the person getting off completes the circuit?

Can a vehicle hold so much electricity with no one none the wiser until they stop and place a foot on the ground?

The bus would have become 'live', staying at the potential of power source until earthed sadly through a body. The bus tyres may leak some current to earth depending on their carbon content and current at hand. The victims footwear, if any, would have been their minimal protection from earthing. Damp leather is not good. At only 5-10 mA you get a strong tingle. Does not take much more to kill. Sad story.

Without even seeing the tyres I can tell you they were worn to the core. What Indian in his right mind would keep up with maintenance. If they were steel belted the rubber content would have counted for nothing. Too bad the bus company didn't invest about 5usd for a pair of grounding straps.

Electrocution !!!! Just one of the many ways that thousands of people die every hour in India..
I suggest that Mr/Mrs Sabaii Sabaii takes either a reality check or just go and spend a couple of months in India and see the indifference that Indians have about 28 people dieing in what they would call in the Indian press a misshap ...
    Travel lightly ....

Ok, i did get on my high horse a bit. but you're missing the point. You say they're not bothered in India? Show me one Indian post on the internet where they are laughing about it? If it was your family would you laugh it up?

No I wouldn't but I also would not expect foreigners living three thousand miles away to pay any respect to my loss.

I see there's a lot of twisted people on here ( just look in that teak door jail) and if, hey you get a kick out of the double decker joke and so forth, that's your problem.

Just makes me laugh looking at the so-called English teachers on here who find that funny. See why you boys struggle along on 40k a month now.

And deathstardan( yep teacher) thanks for the red.

And the reason? See below. Ha ha ha ha. Oh the Irony
