I'm afraid the fact that there are female police officers Bob has little to do with officers carrying equipment designed to disable a suspect. Ask any officer (male or female) regarding their concerns when being threatened and they will say that they need to create their own space, keeping the suspect at a distance thereby minimising the risk of being overpowered. Certainly, in the US where officers carry firearms, allowing a suspect within touching distance can prove fatal. Wrestling with suspects on the street is no win situation.
Political correctness has again little to do with employing female officers in a police force. They were being employed many decades prior to PC and equal rights.
The fact that some overweight police officers are employed has nothing to do with discrimination law. Officers who apply may need to pass a physical test, certainly a medical certificate supplied from a qualified examiner would be required.
The officer in the photo looks considerably overweight but then he may be a veteran of the force as he appears to be in his 40's. It would be a serious error of judgement to dismiss any competent police officer with vast experience merely because of his size.
On a one to one, and i am of considerable stature, i wouldn't particularly fancy my chances against him so it's no wonder the kid was running as fast as he could!
