Thai death father Ian Horton cleared of rape in Cardiff

The father of Welsh backpacker, Katherine Horton, who was murdered in Thailand in 2006, has been cleared of raping a woman.

Cardiff Crown Court had been told that Ian Horton, had suffered "difficulties" since losing his daughter.

The trial heard a woman went to police after alleging the 56-year-old from Lisvane had raped her a second time.

The prosecution case was withdrawn on the trial's third day and the charges were dropped against Mr Horton.

He had denied the allegations.

Mr Horton's 21-year-old daughter was killed in 2006.
Two Thai fishermen admitted murdering Katherine Horton

The psychology student had been on the island of Koh Samui on New Year's Day when she was raped and beaten by two fishermen, before being left to drown.

The two men, Wichai Somkhaoyai, 28, and Bualoi Posit, 27, were sentenced to life for the murder after admitting the attack.

The trial had earlier heard Mr Horton, of Lisvane, Cardiff, had "difficulties" coming to terms with his daughter's rape and murder by the Thai fishermen.
