A woman driving while wearing an Islamic veil has been fined by French police

A woman driving while wearing an Islamic veil has been fined by French police for not having a clear field of vision.

Her Lawyer Jean-Michel Pollono said traffic officers in Nantes fined her £22 earlier this month.

The fine was based on a rule that says drivers should have "freedom of movement and a sufficient field of vision."

Mr Pollono said he is appealing the decision, saying a veil is "the same as a motorcycle helmet" in terms of hindrance to vision.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has ordered a law drafted that would ban veils that cover the face and body anywhere in public.

Except they don't bounce off the concrete so well.


I don't think it is apporpriate in this case as vision seems not to be impaired witht he example shown.


What pisses me off is being cut off by ninja turtles here in Malaysia time after time because they wear the tudung, which actually is almost like wearing blinkers:

Stupid petty police with no respect for the public who pay their salaries are about the same in all western countries. The officer who wrote this citation should be sacked then prosecuted for violating her rights.
