Maine - Teen To Eat Bull That Gored Him

Teen To Eat Bull That Gored Him

    DURHAM, Maine --

A Durham teen said he feels pretty good despite being attacked by a bull Monday evening.

Vinnie Huntington, 17, said he was trying to round up the bull and a steer after both got out of their pen on the family farm
"The bull almost went in its pen but I came up behind him. I was going to whack him to get him in but he turned around and came after me," said Huntington.

Huntington said he was about 10 feet away from the bull when it charged him.

He said there was little he could do.
The bull hit Huntington twice in the back, flipped him in the air and stomped on him before his mother and a neighbor were able to help free him from underneath the bull.

"He turned around, he looked at me and he just started running -- and that was the worst part ... because I knew I wasn't going to be able to do nothing," Huntington said.
"The first time, he knocked me in the air and hit me in the back, and that's when I ran the other way and he hit me and I just went to the ground."
"We were probably going to eat him eventually, but now that this has happened, he's already been cut up. I'm going to enjoy it, too."
    - Vinnie Huntington

"I saw him jump on the fence and get tossed around and I ran to him," said Katheleen Stilphen, a neighbor.Huntington, who suffered two dislocated shoulders, two puncture wounds to his back and several bumps and bruises, hopes to be released from the hospital on Thursday.
"I shouldn't have been that close to him, you know, trying to whip him in," Huntington said.
"I should have jumped on the fence to start with, but I didn't want him going after my mom, who was on the fence next to him."

Shortly after the attack, the 1,800-pound bull was shot and the family plans on eating it for dinner."We were probably going to eat him eventually, but now that this has happened, he's already been cut up," Huntington said.

"I'm going to enjoy it, too."Huntington said the event happened very fast and left him pretty dizzy.

"I was being kind of stupid. I shouldn't have been that close to him trying to whip him in," said Huntington.

Huntington said the last time the bull got loose, the family was nearly forced to shoot it.

Huntington said he hopes to be released from the hospital Thursday.

On a side note, Huntington was upset that paramedics had to cut off his brand new shirt.

A real bright lad...I bet he'll be able to breed later in life, unlike the unlucky bull...
