UK - Huntley's throat slashed in jail

    Huntley's throat slashed in jail

    By JOHN KAY
    ALASTAIR TAYLOR and GARY O'SHEA

SOHAM killer Ian Huntley had his throat slashed in a vicious prison attack by a fellow lag today.

Huntley - jailed for the murder of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002 - was knifed in the maximum security wing at Frankland Jail near Durham.
He was swiftly moved out of the prison to hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prisoner at HMP Frankland was assaulted by another prisoner with a home-made implement at about 3.25pm on Sunday 21 March.
"The prisoner was taken to outside hospital for treatment. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening."

A Prison Service spokesperson said: "A prisoner at HMP Frankland was assaulted by another prisoner with a home-made implement at about 3.25pm on Sunday 21 March.

"The prisoner was taken to outside hospital for treatment. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening."

The slashing incident is the latest in a string of violent attacks on Huntley since he was jailed for the Soham outrages.

In October 2006 he was ambushed as he returned to his cell at Wakefield Jail in West Yorks after a meal.

A prisoner held a plastic KNIFE - which had been pared and honed for sharpness - to Huntley's neck and tried to stab him but the Soham monster managed to escape and later made a complaint to prison bosses.

In February of the same year he narrowly escaped a beating from a Somalian rapist at the same prison.

Child-killer Huntley taunted the man-mountain and was saved by a prison guard who threw himself between the two and suffered a broken nose shielding Huntley.

Days earlier another lag tried to smash Huntley in the face with a MUG.

In yet another attack the pervert loner had boiling water tipped over him.

Rapist Paul Marshall, 35, escaped prosecution for the 2005 scalding, claiming he acted in self-defence.

Huntley was left with severe burns after the attack in the hospital wing at Wakefield.

The evil killer was delivered a further beating at Wakefield in 2005 by fellow lag Daniel Neil, 28, who later claimed he did it to avenge the deaths of Holly and Jessica.

    He said: "I'm a father of a 13-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.

"I remember seeing Holly and Jessica's mum and dad on TV and I remember the tears falling down my face.

"And I remember swearing that if I ever crossed Huntley's path I'd give him a beating."

In July 2005 he was left with a boot print on his face after an attack by another prisoner, this time in the prison workshop at Wakefield.

Two months earlier he was left a bloody mess after an attack in the showers at the same prison, but he fought back breaking his attackers nose.

In 2004 Huntley was thumped repeatedly while in South London's maximum security Belmarsh Jail. A fellow lag smashed him in the face.

In addition to the attacks Huntley has made three attempts to take his own life.

The Former caretaker downed 32 antidepressants at Woodhill Prison, Bucks, in 2003.

And he took another massive overdose in 2006 in Wakefield Jail, and was put on a suicide watch costing the prison 1,128 a day

In 2008 he was switched from Wakefield Prison, West Yorks, to Frankland nick, just outside Durham City.

Thats what I don't understand about the legal system in our countries.

On one hand you have a callous killer of children and on the other you have a system who spends 100's of thousands of tax payers pounds protecting him when he wishes to end his own life.

Forgive me but can someone explain to me why?

so rapists gangsters and thieves are taking the moral highground against child killer huntley.

gotta love the criminal classes for their twisted view of life.

^Which is heartening. Attacking children in any form is the lowest of the low. Good to see that despite criminality, that value is still held by most.

^The convicts don't attack those below them on the pecking order because of some belated social conscience.

They do so precisely to establish a pecking order. So that they themselves do not have to feel like they are the dregs.

Such bottom-feeder prejudices have been with us a long time. Eg: southern rednecks forming the Ku Klux Klan, in order to bully negroes and in so doing feel some oneupmanship.

Huntley aside, why are the UK taxpayers paying to house Somalian rapists?

Are the authorities hoping that they can be rehabilitated and then released out into community again?

    The country has gone mad.

They should be deported and blacklisted upon conviction, thai style "persona not gratis, 99 years"

Its because of liability. While a prisoner is in custody the jailers have an obligation to ensure his safety. Thats why they take your belt and shoelaces off you when you get thrown into a police cell. Nothing to do with compassion for child killers.

Precisely Mate, that + the fact that you have sworn to do a job according to laws and rules, and that includes the stuff you don't like to do too, if you are a good civil servant. If state civil servants start to act like they are a law onto themselves you have----Thailand

Not a mutually exclusive trait to the lower echelons of society.

I'm sure you are perfectly correct, but I would still like to think that there is some moral thought process going on in the convicts mind that says child molesters need to be punished over and above what the bleeding heart justice system passes out.

just read he is to be, or could be awarded between 10000 and 20000 for this attack,he has a 15000 claim pending from the hot water episode.
at this rate if he ever gets out he could be a rich man.
on an even sadder note the families of the girls he killed only got 11000,
nothing could ever compensate for the loss of your child,
but just as a money issue crime seems to pay.
life is what happens to us while we are making other plans

Regarding the money mentioned,,, if he ever does get released from prison which i doubt very much , he will be an empty, totally shell shocked, piece of meat unable to fit in anywhere . My guess is that he will eventually go insane and end up where brady resides. And of course nobody will giveafuk.

Reminds me of that show Prison Break.

And yeah if the prisons didn't hold up the law you'd pretty much have total anarchy. Hence the suicide watch. Why do taxpayers have to pay for it. Again, a justice system costs money. The alternative is not Thailand, but Somalia.
