Well it fared okay in the survey below.
In the annual survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Vancouver scored 98 per cent on a combination of stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure - a score unchanged from last year.

    1. Vancouver, Canada
    2. Vienna, Austria
    3. Melbourne, Australia
    4. Toronto, Canada
    5. Calgary, Canada
    6. Helsinki, Finland
    7. Sydney, Australia
    8. Perth, Australia
    9. Adelaide, Australia
    10. Auckland, New Zealand
London came 54th, New York 56th.

But that's for living there, last I heard regarding the winter olympics is that they had everything in place except SNOW.

BBC World just reported an opening day forecast of 12 C (54 F) - and rain. Fortunately it seems the ceremony is inside a large (covered) stadium. Probably a better place for a summer olympics. Anyway, hope it works out. True Channel 109 (or is it 106) think the former, is carrying the games - finally something worth paying for!
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

Watched the opening. Looked good. Sorry about the Georgian luge bloke - sure I'm not the only wondering if that is a design flaw in the course, or just a bad fluke.

Vancouver is a very beautiful city and apparently the biggest city to ever host a winter olympics.

Looking forward to the hockey..and downhill skiing.

Yes saw those reports too. But it's not "no snow" just not much - I think the mountains where they ski (Whistler) is actually quite high up and far away from the city which is of course at sea level. So as long as they don't try to ski around the harbour it will probably be ok.

Having said that, ESPN also reported that Whistler had a heavy rain that washed away much of the freshest snow. Not good as that will leave ice for the downhillers and jumpers..But you know a day or two and everything can change at high elevation where the temp can change fast.
