I've watched the movie several times (Charlie Wilson's War); he was certainly a 'one off'.

he would have been Jeff, if your president had the balls to follow through at the time. Might even have saved a few lives.

A strange and flawed character - but he did step up, at least on this issue. RIP. (And a pretty good movie).

Yep!!
He did sure open Pandora,s Box, what he let out is now the major concern in the western world concerning terrorism.
The big issue is can this newly elected government close the box.

Charlie Wilson a hero? Not sure about that, however he will be remembered as the Oliver North of Afghanistan.

Iam not sure I would like that tag either..

In truth, I didn't realise there was an existing 'Obituary' thread. Given that US news is a regular feature, and of course Afghanistan is a perennial topic, thought it wouldn't be inappropriate to post.
