EVALUATION
NO DESTRUCTIVE WIDESPREAD TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS BASED ON HISTORICAL EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI DATA.
HOWEVER – EARTHQUAKES OF THIS SIZE SOMETIMES GENERATE LOCAL TSUNAMIS THAT CAN BE DESTRUCTIVE ALONG COASTS LOCATED WITHIN A HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. AUTHORITIES IN THE REGION OF THE EPICENTER SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS POSSIBILITY AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.
THIS WILL BE THE ONLY BULLETIN ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT UNLESS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

Harry when i first opened up the thread, the only content was 'Very strong 7.1M earthquake in Vanuatu' and a quick google search showed that a 7.1 earthquake had occured last month off Vanuatu, February the 2 or 3 i think. The information now contained in your op wasn't there when i first read the post, so my reading is just fine thank you.

It's always been a seismically active hotbed, being an extension of the rather young [tectonically speaking] arm of the larger "Ring of Fire", reaching from Indo/PNG running along all of the broader Melanesia region towards the also highly volatile New Zealand.
