ABC News Reports US Military Rifle Sights Inscribed with Biblical Passages

Pentagon Supplier for Rifle Sights Says It Has 'Always' Added New Testament References

    Jan. 18, 2010

Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the U.S. military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

The sights are used by U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in the training of Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. The maker of the sights, Trijicon, has a $660 million multi-year contract to provide up to 800,000 sights to the Marine Corps, and additional contracts to provide sights to the U.S. Army.
U.S. military rules specifically prohibit the proselytizing of any religion in Iraq or Afghanistan and were drawn up in order to prevent criticism that the U.S. was embarked on a religious "Crusade" in its war against al Qaeda and Iraqi insurgents.

One of the citations on the gun sights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: "For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

Other references include citations from the books of Revelation, Matthew and John dealing with Jesus as "the light of the world." John 8:12, referred to on the gun sights as JN8:12, reads, "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Trijicon confirmed to ABCNews.com that it adds the biblical codes to the sights sold to the U.S. military. Tom Munson, director of sales and marketing for Trijicon, which is based in Wixom, Michigan, said the inscriptions "have always been there" and said there was nothing wrong or illegal with adding them. Munson said the issue was being raised by a group that is "not Christian." The company has said the practice began under its founder, Glyn Bindon, a devout Christian from South Africa who was killed in a 2003 plane crash.

We believe that America is great when its people are good. This goodness has been based on biblical standards throughout our history and we will strive to follow those morals.

So what, even in Islam Jesus and the disciples are respected and quoted as far as I know.

Now there is an argument among some that Allah and God are the same and some say NAY but most agree..

Jesus Christ Musty,, why all the conspiracy bullshit??

If you hate the US so bad then go to another country, denounce your citizenship and swear allegiance to Somalia or Yemen or someplace where you will be proud of your passport.

Plenty of smite your enemy bits in the bible. Unfortunately none directly attributed to Jesus teachings. He was a turn the other cheek kind of guy. Big difference between father and son me thinks.

At the risk of being accused of 'bumping ' this thread - why is it that-

Muslims say that ' There is only one God and Mohammed( peace be upon him) is his prophet'

Christians declare that there is only one god as well ( OK a triumviate(sp?) of the Father - the Son , and the Holy ghost) but Jesus is the 'prophet' that declared this .

So as both 'religions' agree that there is only one 'God' we must assume that the present worldwide shit fight is over 'prophets ' and not God ???

    WTF !!!

The Koran was written several generations after Mohammed died .
The Bible was also written after Jesus died.

Both books were written/ compiled from anecdotes and folk tales that were passed down to the writers.

OK St Pauls 'letters to' were supposedly written in the period but after the crucifiction !

Both 'Prophets' decided to leave earth in their way to heaven from the same city- Jerusalem.

None of the rituals - pilgrimages - Haj - Spanish inquisition , Jihad etc etc were/are demanded by the 'prophets' but were the result of people in 'authority' wanting to maintain control of the uneducated masses.

So all the trouble in the world today is not about which 'God' is the correct one - but about who told you about 'Him' ????

    I don't believe a word of it !
Being at a Jesuit monastery school during my formative years was probably a big influence

    Bible passages or anal passages?

    Indeed there are BUT

They were all written by others than the 'prophets' but were by someone who wants to give an aura of authority to themselves!
You must not forget that in the days that the 'Holy Books ' were written most of the population were illiterate and they relied on their 'superiors ' to read for them and tell them what the books said !

    Its OK.
    God is on THEIR side.

Killing the baddies is like ridding the world of the devils disciples. Not at all anything like killing real people. Well, maybe just a few. But thats to be expected in the fog of war.

Military people have a right to believe in whatever god or prophet they want. If they feel the need to have a crucifix or a TD amulet to protect them from bad shit so be it. The issue for me is a government who profess state and religion are separate allow a contractor to put Christian or any other religious inscriptions on a product. Ain't kosher.

    Conspiracy? No.

It's just pathetic. And stupid. I believe there are only 10 commandments, not too hard to remember, and a religious person should have no trouble. A commandment! Thou shalt not kill. If you put bible verses in your rifles, you are a fricking retard - end of story.

It's actually really troubling. As much as Islam has a problem with crazed militants, the US now has a problem with crazed bible thumpers. IMO the latter are a much bigger threat to the USA than the former.

    USA == Saudi Arabia

no wonder they share so many religious values and weren't attacked after 911, they share the same fanatism when it comes to religion

If he did I would recommend a Heckler and Koch MP5 sub machine gun.

More effective at close quarters, such as in the Garden of Gethsemane, than the HK416 assault rifle

and smaller and easier to conceal in a large crowd when feeding the masses with small pieces of fish and bread than the general purpose HK-MG4 machine gun.
