I was watching CNN and BBC all day yesterday since I was in bed sick and I came to a conclusion...Bill Clinton is an idiot. First he comes on and says these people don't need aid they need money. LOL...what are they going to do with it, wipe their butts? A few hours later he comes on and says that after three decades of dealing with these events he has learned how to deal with them. He said the people need food, water, and shelter. Haha...shelter? It's dry season in Haiti. The people can survive sleeping on a lawn. Bill...what happened to the money that was so important? He then comes on a little later and gives his third appearance. He makes a list of things they need...generators, medical supplies, fuel, ect. Wow...someone must have clued him in.

Thai government approves US$20,000 aid to quake-shattered Haiti

DANANG, Vietnam, Jan 14 (TNA) - The Thai government approved US$20,000 in relief aid to quake-shattered Haiti as part of a massive international effort to alleviate the effects of the deadly earthquake that flattened much of Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince, according to Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Kasit Piromya.

Mr Kasit, attending the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Da Nang, Viet Nam on Thursday and Friday, said that Thailand decided to initially donate US$20,000 for humanitarian assistance in Haiti.

He said that That officials were deciding on how to channel the aid to Haiti.

Tens of thousands of people were feared dead and many were believed to be still trapped alive under rubble after the quake of magnitude 7.0 earthquake which hit the capital on Tuesday.

Following the powerful earthquake that hit southern Haiti on Wednesday causing major loss of lif and tremendous damage to buildings and infrastructure in much of the country, the foreign ministry has been checking information about the whereabouts and well-being of Thai nationals affected by the catastrophe.

At the moment, Mr Kasit said, the Thai foreign ministry has been informed by relatives of Thai nationals working or living in Haiti that the four persons known to be there are safe.

None had asked for the assistance from the ministry to return to Thailand, he said.

At the same time, Mr Kasit said, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva sent a message of condolence to the president of Haiti. (TNA)

Mate if I see another graphic picture of this disaster I may top myself.

I feel so very sorry for all the kids and who the fvck can help them firstly coming to terms with the grief of losing family members then with life's neccessities.

Why oh why does the already poor and destitute always seem to suffer most from these natural disasters.

^Gotta a couple of women who work for the family in Miami from Haiti. Part of a few e-mails between some of us, about one of the women, Marie,………..

marie just heard from her brother (few seconds) before the line cut off
so she is very emotional with relief that he's alive. Waiting waiting to reach him again to ask about her nieces/nephews though.

It’s awful,.not knowing. What else can you possibly think about, until you know something, anything?

I was on Phuket during the tsunami. I had my camera in hand the whole time but could never get myself to take a picture of a body. I had plenty of chances too. It seemed so disrespectful.

While you're sitting there in front of your computer, help me find out the names of the Christian Missionary foundations that ran away on the first available flights out of Port au Prince. They were interviewed on BBC World as they boarded their chartered jet.

Because as you would be getting on the plane, these fckuers were leaving - unbeliveable - when "God" needed them to stay and help - or at least give up their seats on that plane to people who needed them - and leave their little guitars and camp-fire parties behind.

To see what the Christians are saying about the missionaries leaving Haiti after the earthquake I just took a look at this site:
    http://www.godlikeproductions.com/fo...sage964872/pg2

You gotta love those crazy Christians. Some believe it is ok because most Christians in Haiti are Catholic and some believe God is punishing them for practicing black magic. I can't find any info on BBC interviews. Are they transporting people to the Dominican Republic for medical care?

Reports are that the DR is doing all it can, which considering the rocky relationship between the two countries is good to know.

I actually felt the quake in Delray Beach, FL. Was upstairs in my bathroom, about 4 stories up, felt a slight shake and heard some creaking, and immediately thought, "That felt like an earthquake. You must be losing your mind," in part because I had been working non-stop since about 7 that morning and was already quite fatigued and thought it possible my mind was playing tricks on me. Having lived in Japan more than 15 years, and California before that, I do have a fair amount of quake experience. A few hours later I took a break to check the news and first read of the quake, which indeed occurred right about the time I felt the shaking. Reports have come in from all over South Florida, especially the Keys and Dade, but also as far away as Tarpon Springs, which is a bit hard to believe. USGS report here M7.0 – Haiti Region

    Haiti Response

CBN and Pat Robertson did it again. He tells the world of a vengeful God and that Haiti is "cursed" and it was dealt this hand as punishment and that he was going to pray for Haiti. Wonderful gent, eh? And, there are fools that donate and follow the words of this man to the letter. It is too bad that he cannot be made to give up his empire and help finance efforts to restore life in Haiti. The terrible scene on the ground in Haiti should bring out efforts on his part to send relief and aid, not spew forth condemnation and offer to pray for them. What a foul man.......

Glass houses and all that... Pat Robertson is not without sin himself and should be judged by his own rules...

A quick google search for 'Pat Robertson scandals' only returned 277,000 hits...

Results 1 - 10 of about 277,000 for pat robertson scandals. (0.33 seconds)

    Ah, the Republican base.

Some interesting commentary at USA Today, of all places:
Earthquake-rocked Haiti 'cursed' by a pact with devil: Pat Robertson - Faith & Reason
Robertson was relying on an old folk legend, according to Politico which first posted the video. And he was also relying on his considerable talent for provoking attention, says Rice University sociologist Michael Lindsay.

Lindsay interviewed Robertson for his book, Faith in the Halls of Power: How Evangelicals Joined the American Elite. He says:

Robertson is savvy and vastly underestimated by most observers. He knows exactly what galvanizes attention among his constituents and the larger American public. It's a mix of earnest belief and showmanship. He says these things intentionally. He's not a careless speaker.

Why bad things happen when God is good is the great question people ask at times of tragedy and disaster. To Robertson, it has to mean that evil -- personified by the devil -- is at work.

USA pledges $100 Million in aid to Haiti:

By PAULINE JELINEK Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says "one of the largest relief efforts in our recent history" is moving toward Haiti. Some U.S. resources already are on the ground providing water and medicine, search and rescue efforts and airlifts of the injured.
Speaking to reporters Thursday at the White House, Obama said the U.S. government is making an initial investment of $100 million for the earthquake relief effort in Haiti. He said the amount would grow over the year.
He said it will take hours "maybe days" to get the full U.S. relief contingent on the ground, because of the damaged roads, airport, port and communications. He acknowledged that "none of this will seem quick enough" to the many suffering.
To the Haitians, Obama promised: "You will not be forsaken." He told them that America -- and the world -- "stands with you."

    Sadly, the inevitable is happening:

The calm and dignity of most residents is near breaking, as pockets of looting flared across the city Friday. Small bands of young men and teenagers with machetes roamed downtown streets and helped themselves to whatever they could find in wrecked homes.

True, many left, but the Salvation Army, which has been stationed there for many years, is still there, but with little aid so far to help with food, water, medical care. Really tough to get into Port-au-Prince. Major probs at the airport with so many relief flights. As TukTuk said, the logistics are just not in place. Wait til tonight...people will be on a rampage.

I know what you are thinking though. The engineering and construction in that country are probably both at very low standards, if any standards at all, and that created most of the problem. The quake didn't seem to kill anyone. The buildings looked to have done the killing.

Google Earth reveals the devastation in Haiti

Google responded to the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this week by working with satellite imagery company GeoEye to quickly make images of the destruction available in Google Earth and Google Maps. The images were taken at approximately 10:27 AM Eastern time on Wednesday, and could prove to be a helpful tool for aid organizations attempting to survey and assess the damage to Haiti’s infrastructure.

To view the images you can either download the KML file to add an image layer to Google Earth or you can use the Google Earth browser plug-in to view the images on Google Maps. Google says it will automatically update the Haiti layer as more data and images become available, but Google Earth users only need to download the KML file once.

Google has been working to develop a better map of Haiti through its crowd sourced Map Maker application ever since the country was hit by hurricanes Gustav and Ike last fall. Map Maker encourages users to enhance Google Maps by adding street names, points of interests, and editing driving directions for Google’s satellite image-based maps. In a blog post on Wednesday, Google said it had made all of its raw Map Maker data about Haiti available to the United Nations to aid in relief efforts.

The best way to understand the devastation is to compare before and after images by switching the Haitian layer on and off.

The complete scope of the devastation to hit the tiny nation, which shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic, is still unknown, but many fear the death toll will reach at least 100,000.

If you are planning to make a donation to Haitian relief efforts, be advised the FBI is warning users to watch out for bogus charities, and security firm Symantec has noted that e-mail scams pleading for assistance have begun to surface.

I received this e-mail a few days ago (below). She titled it “Tremor in Miami”. I went on to tease her because the house she’s in is in the flight path of MIA. After reading your post, I apologize to her and sent her the link you provided.

It happened late afternoon between 3:30p and 5:0p. I was working and the sliding doors back on this porch sounded like a grown man was banging on them. That's how loud it was. I went to the doors and saw nothing but tremble. Marie was in the kitchen and she said she heard the roof/ceiling above her in the same way.

Way too weird specially after we were trying to stay away from the news on TV to listen about Haiti's tragedy.
Marie still has not been able to get through to her brother in Haiti.
