Jessica Davies, 30, showed no emotion as she was jailed for 15 years for unpremeditated "voluntary homicide" for plunging the knife into the throat of Olivier Mugnier, 24.
Miss Davies picked up her young victim in an Irish pub in St Germain-en-Laye, an upmarket Paris suburb on November 11, 2007.

She was high on what the prosecutor called a "destructive cocktail" of alcohol and drugs. The pair returned to her first floor flat and started to make love. When he failed to "perform", she went to the kitchen and returned with a knife, sinking it almost five inches into the victim's thorax all the way to his spine.

"It was a chronicle of a death foretold," the prosecutor said referring to Miss Davies mixing copious amounts of drink and four antidepressants.

Describing her as a "sulphurous seductress with the devil's beauty", she accused Miss Davies of having a "selective memory" about the killing and shifting her version of how much she remembered.

The lawyer representing the victim's family referred to a psychiatric report on Miss Davies which described her "ambivalent feelings of desire and hatred towards men", which she often saw as "pure sexual objects".

The expert suggested the knife attack was born of frustration after Mr Mugnier failed to satisfy her. "Olivier failed to fill the void of Jessica Davies. And instead of taking it out on herself, Olivier freed her destructiveness," she said.

Her lawyer, Daniel Soulez-Larivière, said her act was the result of displaced self-harm, born out of unbearable psychological distress: "This was not the crime of a thief, or a pervert, or a sexual crime. It was a suicidal act," he said.
The idea that she had faked amnesia over the knife attack was "totally erroneous," he added.

The lawyer singled out Richard Davies, 56, as being an absent father whose "English" habit of sweeping any emotional problems "under the carpet" had compounded his daughter's psychological instability.

"There is a certain English tendency to say: 'Touch nothing, say nothing'. On the surface, everything is smooth but underneath a lot is going on and this can generate tragedy," he said.

Mr Davies, who left home for Turin with an Italian mistress, had failed to exercise his parental authority, said Aurélia Grignon, the other defence lawyer: "He did not play his role as a father," she said. Despite belonging to a "golden youth" she had been disturbed by her parent's acrimonious divorce. Doctors had failed to adequately respond to her pleas to be interned earlier in the year, she said.

Miss Davies, who suffered mental health problems and regularly self-harmed, received well under the maximum 30 year term.

The nine-man jury heard expert opinion that she was in an "altered state" when she committed the crime. They accepted that she was "sincere" about having a "total blackout" during the killing except "the sensation of the knife going in."
However, her lawyers said they would consider an appeal, given that the prosecution had asked for only 12 years. She was also sentenced to 10 years of probation and psychological monitoring.

Miss Davies, whose father Richard is Quentin Davies' younger brother, said before the verdict: "I want to express the extent of my remorse and just say that I assume my responsibility and the consequences.

"What I did terrifies me. I dare not even ask for forgiveness from Olivier's family. I can assure you that it will never happen again," she said. Minutes after the verdict, she could be seen smiling and joking with police minders.

At one point, Miss Davies was asked about her relations with her uncle, Quentin Davies. She said: "We write to each other. He's someone I admire, for his success, his convictions and his humanism. He's someone who is very cultured." Her family were ordered to pay a total of 105,00 euros in damages to Mr Mugnier's parents and his twin brother.

Her lawyer, Mr Soulez-Larivière said afterwards: "(Jessica) was open and clear with herself and she knows everything about this case was strange: the verdict, the crime the hearing."

15 years for premeditated murder is a ridiculously low sentence. The American way is better; you serve about 15 years by which time your appeals are exhausted and you are executed.

It sounds like there is a fair chance that she should be in a mental institution and not a prison.

Since when has premeditated murder without a real motive other than to kill been a 'suicidal act'? sounds like desperation on the part of the defense. I5 years is far, far too low.

She's just a fruitloop that needed to be locked up.

Whats this about her family paying compensation? how are they responsible for her acts?
