British pair win record-breaking share of £91m EuroMillions jackpot

British pair win record-breaking share of £91m EuroMillions jackpot
Two British ticketholders have become the country's biggest lottery winners after scooping £45,570,835.50 each in the latest EuroMillions draw.

In May this year a 25-year-old Spanish woman became the biggest EuroMillions winner when she won £110 million.

The only two winning tickets for the massive £91 million jackpot were bought in the UK so each ticketholder will get half the winnings, smashing the previous record UK lottery pay out of £35.4 million.
The holders of the winning tickets for last night's draw – the 300th EuroMillions draw – now have 179 days to claim their massive prizes with winning numbers 11, 19, 34, 43, 45 and lucky stars 5 and 9.
A National Lottery spokesman said: "This is fantastic news. These two ticketholders have just banked the largest lottery prizes ever paid out in the country.
"If either of the tickets belong to a single winner they will soar into the top spot on the National Lottery rich list.
"We have plenty of champagne on ice and we are looking forward to welcoming the lucky ticketholders to the National Lottery's millionaires club."
Before last night's result the UK's biggest lottery winner was Glasgow postal mistress Angela Kelly who won £35.4 million in August 2007.
Ms Kelly did not realise she had won the cash until three days after the draw as she only checked her lucky dip ticket when she heard the bumper pay out had gone unclaimed.
In May this year a 25-year-old Spanish woman became the biggest EuroMillions winner when she won £110 million.
She also only discovered her luck three days later when she returned to work after suffering from swine flu.
The National Lottery marks its 15th anniversary next week. Since it was set up it has created more than 2,300 millionaires and raised £23 billion for good causes.
EuroMillions tickets are sold in the UK, Spain, France, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland.
The three largest National Lottery prizes won in the UK so far are all from the Euromillions game.
They went to Angela Kelly, who won £35,425,411.80; a no publicity winner the same month who won £26,533,767.50; and Brian Caswell of Bolton, who won £24,951,269.40, in June this year.
They are followed by two winning tickets in the domestic game - £22,590,829, which was shared by Paul Maddison and Mark Gardiner, of Hastings, in June 1995, and £20,100,472, won by Iris Jeffrey, of Belfast, in July 2004.

Wow...just imagine winning all that wedge. If only it were mine, I could buy every bar girl I've ever shagged a new house in Isaan. I knew I should have asked them their names and addresses.

I'd hate to see the size of lottery machine those balls fall out of.

True enough. One big payout like this will inspire every loser to piss away even more of their cash on tickets in the hope that they have as much chance of winning as these two. Which of course , they do , which is as slim as finding Elvis alive and well on the moon.

You're more likely to be struck by lightning on two different occasions than win the UK lottery.

More likely to die from a coconut falling on your head, too.

My mum sent me an email titled 'Euro Millions' and I thought we'd won. The message just read 'It wasn't us'

It wasn't me either...or anyone in my family or I'd have something more important to do than write here. Damnit.
