This according to a BBC doco The Power of Nightmares which is wel worth a look, it's much more believable than Loose Change. According to the doco: "al-Qaeda is so weakly linked together that it is hard to say it exists apart from Osama bin Laden and a small clique of close associates. The lack of any significant numbers of convicted al-Qaeda members despite a large number of arrests on terrorism charges is cited by the documentary as a reason to doubt whether a widespread entity that meets the description of al-Qaeda exists at all. Therefore the extent and nature of al-Qaeda remains a topic of dispute." I don't think you'll find links using the name Al Queda prior to this court case.

| I laways loved the demolition theory,we have all seen those programmes where they wire up buildings for demolition. Imagine the number of workers scurrying around the twin towers at night with explosives, hundreds of kilometers of cable and drilling all those holes with hammer drills. Wouldnt the cleaners in the building at night have seen or heard something? How good were the demolition boys to have hidden all traces of their work by the morning,it would have taken months to set it up wouldnt it? Anyone who believes this rubbish has to be off their trolley. |

| The New York Times: Search for 'al qaeda' the earliest references in the NYT archive to Al Queda I can find is about September, 1998 - shortly after the Tanzanian and Kenyan embassy bombings. |

| ^ Yes, as weird as the collapse looks, the scenario you presented sound doesn't seems pretty unlikely. The British program Horizon gave an explanation of why the design led to the collapse. I think the govt has something to hide, but that doesn't mean they planned it. There was no grand conspiracy, everyone involved took advantage of the hand they were dealt. On the one hand Bush and Co got to have wars, more arms spending and stamp on the constitution. On the other hand, Bin Laden and his mates got to be considered the head of a 'massive network with tentacles reaching into all corners of the globe'. Just what he'd always wanted. |

| the trial of the first WTC bombing happened before 2000, something like 1994 or 1996, this is when the term was first coined that name has been circulating for a while, I heard it on TV before 1998 quite a few times |

'The US intelligence community used the term "al-Qaeda" for the first time only after the 1998 embassy bombings'
