UK:Youth Bites Friend's Nose Off in Brawl

Youth bit off friend's nose in drunken brawl - EDP24

A promising young student who in a “moment of madness” bit off the nose of a friend during a drunken brawl was yesterday spared immediate custody and ordered £2,000 compensation to his victim.

Aaron Piggott, 19 sank his teeth into the nose of his friend James Sidroy when he tried to calm things down outside a Thetford night spot following a dispute Norwich Crown Court heard.

Mr Sidroy who was 17 at the time did not realise the full extent of his injury until the next morning when he realised the end of his nose was missing.

Douglas Mackay, prosecuting said Mr Sidroy had to be transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital and had to undergo four separate operations. Mr MacKay said that one operation involved him having part of his ear removed to help reconstruct his nose.

Mr Sidroy who is now 19 did not report the matter to police until nearly a year after the incident.

The court heard that the two teenagers were now friends again and Piggott who was also 17 at the time of the incident was now at university and hoping to become a PE teacher.

Piggott of Melford Bridge Road, Thetford, admitted unlawfully wounding Mr Sidroy.

Recorder Simon Spence ordered him to pay £2,000 compensation to his victim and imposed a nine month custodial sentence suspended for 18 months. He also imposed a five month curfew and ordered him to do 200 hours unpaid work.

He told Piggott: “in a moment of madness fuelled entirely through excess drink you bit the nose off a person who had been a close friend.”

He said as a result Mr Sidroy had had to have extensive surgery and would be scarred for the rest of his life. However he said he was suspending the custodial sentence because of the exceptional circumstances which was the delay in bringing the case to court, the fact he was only 17 at the time and also the fact that the two men had resumed their friendship.

He said even so the sentence was likely to have a significant impact on his future career.

Jonathan Goodman mitigating said Piggott was full of remorse “he has never denied what he did”. He added “he knows it is going to have a serious effect on his employment prospects once he qualifies as a teacher.”

He said the incident had happened when he was only 17 and said: “he is not going to trouble the courts again.”

I liken Blackgang to someone portrayed in this song and believe everything he claims he has seen, done and generally fucked up to be true. In fact I can imagine him singing this song.

I will treat this as friendly, and no not really, I have done everything I ever wanted to do, I have an IQ, but was never held back by having an education in any certain craft/trade, so without economical restraints I was free to try a number of different jobs/trades and was 21 before I had any real technical training and that was as Marine engr., not in the newer sense of the word but as a guy that worked in the engine rooms and ran the machinery.
But had done a number of things besides that as I had a sense of adventure and would work at about anything when I needed money, or just thought it would be fun to give something a shot.
Very few years I had less than 2 W-2 forms and in the early 60-or 61 I had 24 for the year, thats a lot of jobs to have had in a year. You might see me in the morning working along side a Burmese labor at their pay and after I had 100 baht in my pocket to make it to a sea port, I would be talking to a Capt. or a chief engr, and have a work over bunk on a ship that was heading someplace I wanted to go, I always carried a USCG merchant mariners Z card in my pocket so could sign on any ship that would take me and they always paid you some for working your way.

Thanks LT, I would not lie, there is no need to as I have been around most jobs if not actually working them enough to get by, I was a certified welder witha LA county shop and field cert, which is one of the tougher ones in the world to get and went [also carried a LH300 when I worked for AEC] to work for a structural steel specialty mfg. once as an apprentice Press operator so I could learn about working and setting up the big machines, not much money , but I wanted to learn it, then some asshole working there told them that I was a cracker jack welder with papers, so they transfered me to the welding shop prefabbing beams for the Civic enter in downtown LA, I worked a month and drug up because I wanted to learn press set up,, never did learn it but did eat.
Once made up my mind I wanted to go to Nam, Army/Navy said I was kinda old and I said I would go as E6 no less, they said no way, so I went down the street and hired on to DynaCorp, and 3 days later was setting in Frisco waiting for a plane to Nam ..

    Hope that answers some questions...
