Philip Garrido was 'monster' says Las Vegas casino girl he raped

Philip Garrido, the alleged kidnapper of Jaycee Lee Dugard, was a "monster" according to a Las Vegas casino girl who he raped in a specially designed "sex palace".

In 1977 Garrido was sentenced to life for the sex attack on the 25-year-old casino worker and 50 years for kidnapping her.
He was granted parole in 1988, three years before Miss Dugard vanished.

The victim of the 1970s attack said she was "shocked" that the man suspected of abducting Miss Dugard was the same one who had attacked her but relieved that he had been arrested.
She said: "I am overwhelmingly relieved. He's a monster."
The retired detective who interviewed Garrido over that attack said he should have been castrated before being allowed out of prison.
Dan DeMaranville, 74, said: "Why is he out and about? The guy was a sick puppy and should have been neutered before he was paroled."
Garrido, 58, and his wife, Nancy, 54, have denied 29 counts including kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment in connection with Miss Dugard's disappearance 18 years ago at the age of 11.
Detectives believe she was repeatedly raped by Garrido and bore him two children Garrido's home in Antioch, California has also been searched for evidence of a link to the unsolved murders of several prostitutes in the early 1990s.
Detectives said Garrido spent the 1970s taking LSD, bingeing on cocaine and masturbating in public.
He kidnapped the casino worker from a car park in South Lake Tahoe in 1976.
He then handcuffed her, took LSD and raped her in a converted storage unit in Reno, Nevada.
The officer in the case said the unit had been turned into a "sex palace" with various sex aids, pornography, stage lights and wine to drink. It also had rugs on the walls and floor and was equipped with a movie projector.
Mr DeMaranville, 74, said: "I asked him after he confessed why he did it and he said it was the only way he could get sexual satisfaction. I think he had to use force to get sexual satisfaction.
"He gave the impression he was remorseful. But I don't know whether it was a put-on or not."
He said Garrido also admitted that he indulged his fantasies by masturbating in restaurants and public toilets.
Garrido told police the handcuffs he used on his victim had been a present from his wife.
The main issue in Garrido's 1977 trial was his sanity and whether, because of his dependence on LSD and marijuana, he was responsible for his actions.
He was convicted and served 10 years of a 50 year sentence for kidnapping in a federal prison in Leavenworth, Kansas.
He was then transferred to a Nevada prison where he served another seven months of a concurrent five-years-to life sentence for sexual assault.
He was in jail when he met his wife, Nancy, who was the niece of another prisoner. view-source:Philip Garrido was 'monster' says Las Vegas casino girl he raped in 'sex palace' - Telegraph

Jaycee Lee Dugard: 120 sex offenders live within five miles of Philip Garrido's house
More than 120 sex offenders live within five miles of the house where Philip and Nancy Garrido held Jaycee Lee Dugard captive for 18 years.

Dozens of men with convictions for offences against children live only walking distance from the property where Miss Dugard was forced to live in a ramshackle collection of tents and sheds in the back yard.
The run down working class suburb near Antioch, 50 miles east of San Francisco, has become a refuge for convicted paedophiles and residents with children and grandchildren regularly scour a public website which details where they live.

Polly White, 65, whose house backs on to Garrido's, said: "We found out there's a predator living up the road and that's not even Garrido. We were less worried about him than the other one."
Police are visiting other registered sex offenders in the area to see if any of them attended wild sex parties that neighbours reported hearing in Garrido's garden.
Neighbours have described how unsavoury looking men arrived by car at his house, got drunk, took the drug crystal meth and lined up outside a tent.
Antioch, a town of 100,000, has a significantly higher proportion of sex offenders than other similar areas, according to police.
Contra Costy County, which encompasses it, has a population of one million and more than 1,700 registered sex offenders. A single police officer is responsible for monitoring 350 of those.
The area where Garrido lived is not incorporated as part of Antioch, meaning it is not serviced by local government, is sparsely policed and crime-ridden, a backwater where people mind their own business.
One police officer said: "It's not really on the map. If you're a sex offender it's an attractive place to try and hide."
Dawn Cordy, 52, a resident. said the area was "Boonieville" and paedophiles lived there "because they can".
Garrido's garden is now being dug up by police looking for any evidence connecting him to the murder of 10 prostitutes in the Antioch area stretching back 20 years.
They also brought in sniffer dogs to search for human remains. They were searching for three girls who went missing within 40 miles of Garrido's home between 1988 and 1991.
No trace of Michaela Garecht, nine, Ilene Misheloff, 13, or Amanda "Nikki" Campbell has ever been found. Michaela bore a striking resemblance to Miss Dugard.
Police also searched a house next door to Garrido's where he was caretaker until 2006. It was found to have had locks on the outside so that people could be kept inside.
Garrido's father Manuel Garrido acknowledged that his son could be a killer.
Mr Garrido, 87, said: "He was a sex addict, that was his problem. I believe my son killed the prostitutes."view-source:Jaycee Lee Dugard: 120 sex offenders live within five miles of Philip Garrido's house - Telegraph

Agreed, there is no community spirit or neighbour like stuff that used to go on when I was a kid in London (England) people looked out for other people's kids etc..This has long gone even when I was still in the UK.

Personally I hated my neighbours sticking their noses into my business in the UK when I became an adult. Then again I hated being bothered by sratight heads when I was stoned...and I was always stoned...so unless you were a pothead pixie too...then adios amigo...conversations ending rapidly..your boring the shit out of me!!!

It was just the mind numbing conversations they tried to have with me...TV, food they had eaten or cooked for their loved one etc...nothing worthy of expelling that much hot air!!

Jaycee: Garrido used me as sex slave to ‘save others’
    Jonathan Harwood
    JUNE 3, 2011

Harrowing details emerge of Dugard’s 18 years in captivity as Philip and Nancy Garrido are jailed

Kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard has told Philip Garrido, the sex offender who held her captive for 18 years and fathered her two children, that he "stole" her life and the lives of her family, as he was jailed for 431 years by a California court.

In a victim statement Dugard said she "hated every second of every day" she was held by Garrido and his wife Nancy, who was sentenced to between 36 years and life. Both had entered guilty pleas.

Dugard was not in court and her words were read out by her mother, Terry Probyn. In the statement she said: "I chose not to be here today because I refuse to waste another second of my life in your presence.

"Everything you ever did to me was wrong and I hope that one day you will see that... You stole my life and that of my family."

Probyn also read a statement outlining how the kidnap of her daughter had affected her. "It was you, Nancy Garrido, and it was you, Philip Garrido, that broke my heart. I hate you both," she said.

Sentencing the couple, who held Dugard in the garden of their home in Antioch, judge Douglas Phimister told them: "You took a human being and turned them into chattel. You reinvented slavery."

Earlier he released 135 pages of Dugard's harrowing grand jury testimony in which she recalled the day on which, as an 11-year-old schoolgirl, she was abducted by Garrido at a bus stop in the California town of South Lake Tahoe.

"And all of a sudden, his hand shoots out of the car window, and I feel this shock," she said. She was then bundled into a car where "something [was] thrown on top of me, and then legs, pressure, face down".

Dugard, who went missing in 1991, recalled Garrido laughing and saying: "I can't believe we got away with it."

She also told the jury: "In the beginning he said that I was helping him and that he had a sex problem and that he got me so that he wouldn't have to do this to anybody else. So I was helping him."

She also revealed how Garrido called his sex attacks on Dugard "runs" and would fire up a tazer gun to scare her.
