    Burqini Banned In Italian Town

    Burqini banned in Italian town

Muslim women have been banned from wearing the body-concealing swimming costume known as a burqini in the northern Italian town of Varallo Sesia, according to a report.

    Published: 4:53PM BST 19 Aug 2009

The burqini consists of a headscarf, tunic and loose leggings

Women wearing the garment, made up of a veil, a tunic and loose leggings, face a fine of €500 (£430) if they are spotted at swimming pools or rivers, the ANSA news agency reported.
The anti-immigration mayor of the northern Piedmont town said: "The sight of a 'masked woman' could disturb small children, not to mention problems of hygiene.

"We don't have to be tolerant all the time," Gianluca Buonanno said.
Justifying the move, Mr Buonanno added: "Imagine a western woman bathing in a bikini in a Muslim country. The consequences could be decapitation, prison or deportation. We are merely prohibiting the use of the burqini."
Last week a swimming pool in Paris refused entry to a burqini-clad woman on similar grounds, adding to tensions over Muslim dress in France.
The incident came as French lawmakers conducted hearings on whether to ban the burqa after President Nicolas Sarkozy said the head-to-toe body covering and veil was "not welcome" in France, which is home to Europe's biggest Muslim minority.
Mr Buonanno belongs to the Northern League, a party allied with the centre-Right People of Freedom party led by Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister.

It could also be alien abduction but anyway, it's always good to see public policy based on a policy of "he started it". And in case the readers of The Telegraph aren't intelligent enough to work out the political stance of this twat

The anti-immigration mayor of the northern Piedmont town said
Really? You don't say. I thought he might be one those libbies I keep hearing about.

Quite right we don't and have been far too tolerant in the past, in the UK at least. Tolerant to the point of letting islamist preachers spout their hate of us on the streets, tolerant of dress demands in Schools and the Police, tolerant of sharia law, tolerant of mosque building, Islamic Schools, tolerant of time off for prayers, tolerant of absurd compensation cases for the 'hurt' feeling of Muslims, tolerant of polygamy even to the point of extra benefits for multiple wives, tolerant of arranged (forced) marriage, often to first cousins, etc etc. Yet still we in the west are accused of oppressing the poor Muslims and denying them their human rights and that we do not respect their religion and culture enough. I think we have given too much respect to a religion that gives none back in return.

Just another example of cultural backlash targeting the Islamic community... Banning of scarfs and burkinis is merely the beginning...

Can't see the muslim community coming out to vote for him for a second term???
Then again maybe it will make the French make sure that they get off their arse's to vote in force??

Many countries including my own are getting well and truely pissed off with all this and unfortunately racist groups are getting seats in parliament and in Europe.

Maybe all this your welcome to do what you want, and we won't say anything in case we offend you is backfiring.

Try going to other countries and demanding that they respect your individual rights to do what the hell you like or you'll scream religious persecution or reverse racism??? See how far that gets you??

It could also be alien abduction but anyway????!!!!! That's a bit of a stupid comment??? I think the guy has a point...yes to most of us we would respect their culture and never dream of it...however shoe on the other foot theory.

How many western women have been beheaded for wearing a bikini in a Muslim nation? And why would it be correct to use such a beheading as a basis for banning particular items of clothing in Italy?

I presume they're going to ban the wearing of wetsuits too?

You know, those full-body things with head-coverings.

Did someone say westerners have been beheaded for wearing a bikini? must have missed it, so nobody is saying that's a reason to ban muslim clothing demands either?

What is it? Hyperbole, pandering to the lowest common denominator who will swallow it up and start making their own odd comparisons.

I, for one, am quite glad that we don't have draconian laws in my country regarding different ways of life and the like . . . and I would be quite sad that what our forefathers have worked so hard for would be destroyed by xenophobia.

    But that's just me.

Thought you were referring to a poster here, slight exaggeration which only goes to show how terrified politicians are in the west of offending the poor old muslims who go to live in foreign countries then expect to have all their cultural and religious demands met. He should have not felt the need to justify such a reasonable decision by exaggerating the restrictions and cultural oppression westerners face in many Muslim countries.

Agreed, it would't be correct at all. A: for one it's nowhere near as crowd pleasing as an old fashioned get together stoning, that really brings in the crowds. Noodle shops and the like can also then make a profit. plus it's more fun for the accused...just look at the joy on her face..loving it doesn't even come close.

Fucking hell. It's never happened. There's no reason to think that it's going to happen and that is why I added the comment about alien abduction. Really, this should not be hard for you to understand.

I think Aussies should protest outside the grand palace in Bangkok, it is there god given right to be able to wear shorts and singlets, why wont the Thais allow them into the grand palace dressed like that, it is pure racism at its lowest level.

    Agreed 100%.
The modus operandi of the muzzie masses is to expatriate themselves into ever expanding populations centered in one area of suburbia.
Once they have the numbers they vote out "whomever" and insert one of their own speakeasys before ever expanding onto the next suburb.
They do not assimilate. Their youth are fed Islamic fundamentalism in the mosques by Visiting identities whom forever pandering Federal governments are letting into the country unhindered.
Why should people tolerate this shit?
Freedom is being eroded away by those taking advantage of it in western countries , and even here in SEA.
Governments have found it necessary to introduce more and more restrictions on movement .... basic freedoms we enjoyed only a decade ago are being dismantled because of the push towards an Islamic state.
I cant wait untill all the Fkin oil runs out.
Only then can they go back to throwing stones and burning flags they can ill afford to purchase.
