England - Too Unfit to Shag

    From today's Guardian:

Despite a huge government push to encourage healthy living, Britons are lazier than ever, concludes the study conducted by Nuffield Health, a not for profit health organisation.

One in six people would rather watch a TV programme they didn't like than leave the sofa to change the channel if their remote control was broken. A third (36%) of the 2,000 adults surveyed for the study said they would not run to catch a bus and more than half (59%) would not walk up two flights of stairs to reach their office, choosing instead to take the lift.

More than half of dog owners (52%) did not walk their dogs, and two-thirds (64%) of parents admit to always being too tired to play with their children.
The laziness epidemic appears to have spread to the bedroom, with almost three-quarters (73%) of couples saying they regularly do not have enough energy at the end of the day to have sex, with more than half (58%) blaming a lack of fitness.

No sex please, we're British and we're lazier than ever | Society | The Guardian
Half of the country is too unfit to shag? I guess there's some kind of Darwinian justice in that but it's still pretty depressing.

Sorry. Here's the Telegraph version of the same story:

Nearly one in six people (15 per cent) said if their remote control was broken, they would continue watching the same channel rather than get up.If those surveyed are typical of the wider population, it would mean around 7.3 million Britons are too lazy to walk a few steps to their television set.

Researchers questioned more than 2,000 adults for the not-for-profit healthcare organisation Nuffield Health and found more than half (59 per cent) would get the lift rather than climb two flights of stairs to their workplace.
A third (36 per cent) of those questioned said they would not run to catch a bus.

Of the 654 people with children, almost two-thirds (64 per cent) said they were too tired to play with them, leading the report to conclude it was "no wonder" one in six children are classified as obese before they start school according to Department of Health statistics.

Of the 456 dog owners quizzed, more than half (52 per cent) said they could not be bothered to walk their pet.

Three-quarters (73 per cent) of people said they regularly have too little energy at the end of the day for passion with their partner.

Is that better? And as it's a story involving sex, you can be fairly sure that it's going to get into the tabloids if that's more to your taste.

It's undeniable that we've got a problem in the old country. People who are so huge that their calves slap together when they walk. They describe themselves euphemistically as 'plump' when they compare themselves to other obese people.Apparently, rightly or wrongly, they blame the government for not doing enough to help.Although whether that's shirking personal responsibility is open to debate.

I know it sounds ridiculous but there's a culture of blaming the government for everything here. And it could be said that they don't provide enough cheap places to exercise for those on low income.Having said that, how much does it cost to go running round a park.

Yes because we have to pay for things like roads and streets to walk down.

Depression and boredom is the main problem in the UK. Recreational drugs are out of control. That's about 20% of the population accounted for then!!!!!!

They have become enslaved. They have no opinions worth discussing, they accept what they are told and feel more government control will keep them safe. Fuking buffalos working for the NWO

It's because many people already work too hard as it is. Society expects us to skip to it with a smile: run to catch that bus; please your partner; play with the kids; work 40 hours or more and take home work in the evenings and at weekends; walk the dog--I don't think it's fair to call it laziness. Most folks are just dog-tired trying to make it by hand to mouth.

I read somewhere that most of the cocaine in the UK is less than 10% pure... You can't expect anyone to be skinny and svelte doing that crap..?

    Street beggars on 200-a-night

Street beggars are making 200-a-night - the equivalent of a 73,000-a-year salary tax free, according to police in Leicestershire.
    Published: 3:52PM BST 10 Aug 2009
Officers have discovered a growing number of 'professional' beggars using the money to supplement income from their normal day jobs.
Last month Leicestershire police arrested 20 beggars on the streets of Leicester - none of whom were homeless.

One woman even admitted she begged at night after her office job so she could pay for a new kitchen in her flat.

Sergeant Adrian Underwood, of Leicestershire police, said some beggars are making 200-a-night tax free - which adds up to 73,000 for 365 days of the year.
He said: "On a good Friday or Saturday night some can make up to 200.
"We have intelligence that there is a woman who is begging because she wants a new kitchen for her flat.
"A lot of well-intentioned people see someone begging and think they are deserving causes.
"Would they give them money if they knew that person had just come out of a flat, was receiving benefits and had food in the larder?"
Toni Soni, head of hostel services at Leicester City Council, said previous operations by the authority and police had found no beggars to be homeless.
He said: "There are people who are actually professional beggars who are doing it to make a living."

That's a good point, mainly the reasons I had to get away. It can be very droll in the UK as well. depending on where you live and how much your on. (never seems to be enough though
