Girl shot by four-year-old brother (US)

Girl shot by four-year-old brother - , - Latest news & weather forecasts - MSN News UK

A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being shot by her four-year-old brother at their Las Vegas home.

"While the brother was holding the weapon, it discharged, striking his sister's torso," police spokesman Bill Cassell said.

Police are investigating how the boy got the 9mm handgun.

Mr Cassell said their father was at home when the shooting happened. It is not yet known if he will face any charges.

"At this time it appears the (boy) was able to gain access to the weapon because it was improperly secured," Mr Cassell said.

The little girl is in a critical condition, he said.

The shooting came less than a week after a five-year-old boy shot and killed himself with a handgun inside his father's vehicle outside a Las Vegas pharmacy.
His father, 31-year-old Alex Kopystenski, has been charged with child endangerment.

How many people die every year from gunshot related accidents, in the United States?

The New York Times > Week in Review > Image > An Accounting of Daily Gun Deaths

(Note that suicides outnumber homicides and accidental deaths significantly - this would reduce the number of deaths due to 'evil' guns).

    Interestingly:

Annual Causes of Death in the United States | Drug War Facts

The leading killers of 'innocent' people are Tobacco (435,000 deaths), fat & lazy (365,000 deaths), and Alcohol (85,000 deaths).

Something to keep in mind, while you light up, have a drink, sit in front of your computer, while condemning those evil, evil guns...

(NOTE: the death of that child is still tragic, but more than likely caused by irresponsible parents, who leave guns lying around where kids can get to them - and there are plenty more cases where you children cause fatal accidents via different means)

To bad it is again the laws, [PC I would think] to give race or skin color when reporting such shit anymore, be surprised at how many black gangbangers always leave their shooting iron where it is easy and quick to get at.
And more deaths than listed are caused by Alcohol and are listed as suicide, but alcohol induced, and a lot of shootings are done when up on the juice.

Doesn't sound a black gangbanger to me, perhaps his street name is AK.

Nor did I say that about any certain post or incident, but about the news articles about such shootings and fire arms accidents, or beatings and robberies and other offensive acts with guns, knives and clubs.

Irresponsible parent....sure, but guns are designed to do one thing only...and having one means things can happen.

I have handled guns all my life and nothing has happened that shouldn't have, well except I have a 303 Savage in the Model 99 that my Grandfather bought new in 1903 that I did shoot a doe with it out of season once, and I guess I shouldn't have done that, but we did eat it.

In a country awash with guns, a lot of kids are going to end up being innocent victims, and of course are.

A few, out of 300 million people, A Few.
The population density is a lot greater than Australia for damn sure.
And it is a shame that there are any getting killed, but you pobly have as many dying accidental deaths as they do accordingly.

^ What are you talking about here, --- kids being killed in all types of accidents?
The subject is kids being accidently killed with guns.

    Executing minors . . . charging (even potentially) four-year olds . . .

Will he be charged . . . oh, he died . . . so someone has to pay. Charge the father, of course

Obviously, actually reading the statistics I posted would undermine your entire argument, so better to not research the facts.

What is the point of your statement?

It boils down to 'irresponsible parent'.

My father familiarized me with what a gun is, what a gun can do, and how to handle a gun, since I was 5 years old. Never had a problem, never had an accident, albeit I had to teach a surprising number of idiots... It comes down to 'bad parenting' not 'bad gun'.

Actually, yes, quite irrelevant compared to the number of deaths from alcohol or tobacco - once again, by all means, let's ignore the numbers as I posted - wouldn't want the facts to interfere in your fantasies and your private vendetta.

    Tobacco - 435,000 deaths
    Alcohol - 85,000 deaths
Fat & Lazy (Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity) - 365,000

I don't see you up in arms over those deaths -- though I'm sure you might enjoy getting pissed regularly, or even lighting up a smoke. How's your weight?

Granted, very few damage to others from people eating themselves to death -- but plenty of minors get killed from drunk drivers (way, way more than from accidental gunshots, or gun related homicides), and with 435,000 deaths chalked up to tobacco, I can only estimate how many of those cause untold damage to children from second hand smoke.

Where's your outrage and sarcasm over those innocent deaths?

    *chirp* *chirp* ??

Hmm. What about the statistic that you or a family member is more likely to be killed or injured by your gun than anyone else? I don't object to anyone owning a rifle or a shotgun. I do object to someone owning a pistol (other than a target pistol), an assault rifle, or armor-piercing bullets. I also object to a law that allows anyone with a license in any state to carry his concealed weapon in any other state (recently defeated, thank God, in Congress).

Criminals get untraceable guns by robbing houses of gun-owners.

Shooting incidents, especially grievous ones like Columbine, injure the fabric of society in a way that accidents and natural deaths don't.

Bad parenting and personal lack of responsibility -- taking the guns away, won't make the causes go away.

No, but it'll make the accidental shooting deaths of children go away. That's a good start.
