An Afghan diplomat was charged Friday with beating his wife "like a dog" for more than 15 hours in their Queens home, prosecutors said.

Mohammed Fagirad, 30, a vice consul at the Afghanistan Consulate, brutalized his wife inside their Flushing home from about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday until nearly midnight, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

During the attack, Fagirad bit, slapped, choked and beat the 22-year-old woman with a belt, pushed her down a flight of stairs and sat on her chest, prosecutors said.

At one point, prosecutors said, Fagirad threw his wife up against a wall, held her there by the neck and then let her drop to the floor, where he beat her with a belt.

Fagirad told police his "wife was a dog and he was going to treat her like a dog," prosecutors said.

When Fagirad left the home, his wife fled and went to the 109th Precinct stationhouse, where she filed a domestic violence report, prosecutors said. She then returned home.

When Fagirad returned, he demanded his wife's cell phone and called police to file a counterclaim, prosecutors said....

Orchard Park businessman charged in beheading of wife

Friends expressed shock on Friday that the founder of a Muslim TV channel — which he launched in order to counter violent images of Muslims — has been arrested in his wife’s brutal slaying.

Detectives have charged Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder after his wife was found beheaded Thursday at the offices of the cable channel, Bridges TV, in the Village of Orchard Park.

The victim was identified as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37.

Police said they continued to search for the murder weapon on Friday and refused to discuss further details of the killing.

“I am totally stunned,” said Samira Khatib, a friend of the couple, who lives in Hamburg. “They were really more than married — they encouraged each other in everything.”

It was Aasiya Hassan who encouraged her businessman husband to launch the cable channel, she said. “She was such a lovely person.”

Muzzammil Hassan launched the channel in 2004 in hopes of dispelling stereotypes of Muslims as terrorists, and balancing widespread images of Muslim extremism with moderate viewpoints.

Aasiya Hassan had filed for divorce and obtained an order of protection on Feb. 6, barring her husband from their home in Orchard Park, police said.

“There had been problems before — there had been prior incidents of physical abuse,” said Corey Hogan, whose law firm, Hogan Willig, represented Aasiya Hassan in the divorce proceeding.

Hogan said discussions were being held about continuing arrangements for the couple’s two children, ages 4 and 6, and two older children, ages 17 and 18, from Muzzammil Hassan’s previous marriage.

The family lived on Big Tree Road in Orchard Park.

“Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible,” Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said Friday.

The television channel, which Hassan had founded after leaving a job at M&T Bank, had been under financial strain, said Khalid J. Qazi, president of the Muslim Public Affairs Council of Western New York.

Published reports said that the venture was seeking new investors and battling cable carriers for access to a bigger audience.

In late 2006 a report in Arab News quoted Hassan saying he was trying to raise $5 million from investors in Saudi Arabia.

The English-language broadcast had the endorsement of prominent American Muslims, including boxing great Muhammad Ali. News and other programs developed by the station were distributed via satellite to cable networks around the country.

Qazi said he didn’t see signs of that business strain spilling over into the marriage.

“I cannot believe it — I know them both well,” he said Friday. “I cannot get a handle on this.”

It would be a mistake to link an act of domestic violence to the couple’s religion, he added.

“There is no place for domestic violence in our religion — none,” Qazi said. “Islam would 100 percent condemn it.”

The television station’s office on Thorn Avenue remained closed off as a crime scene on Friday while the investigation continued. The station’s Web site identifies the victim’s maiden name as Aasiya Zubair.

Muzzammil Hassan came to Orchard Park Police Headquarters at 6:20 p. m. Thursday and said that his wife was dead, Chief Andrew Benz said Friday.

Hassan told police that his wife was at the television station, where officers went and found her body.

Also involved in the investigation are personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, state police, Hamburg police, the District Attorney’s Office and the county’s Central Police Services Laboratory.

Parents of Muzzammil Hassan were thought to be en route to the area from Texas. Parents of Aasiya Hassan were said to be coming from Pakistan, and the mother of the older Hassan children was said to be coming from Pennsylvania.

Muzzammil Hassan was arraigned before Village Justice Deborah Chimes Thursday and taken to the Holding Center. Holding Center officials said late Friday information about Hassan’s bail had not yet been received.

Calif. polygamist gets life term for family abuses

MURRIETA, Calif. – A self-proclaimed polygamist was sentenced Friday to seven consecutive life prison terms for torturing seven of his 19 children, abusing four others and imprisoning two of his three wives.

Mansa Musa Muhummed, 55, also was sentenced to additional terms totaling 16 years and eight months by Riverside County Superior Court Judge F. Paul Dickerson III, who said Muhummed's treatment of his family amounted to "a reign of terror over defenseless children."

"If his appeals are exhausted and he does not prevail, he will die in prison," said Peter Morreale, Muhummed's attorney.

Muhummed was convicted in June of 25 counts, including torture, child endangerment, false imprisonment and corporal injury on a spouse.

At his trial, several of Muhummed's children and stepchildren testified against him, telling jurors they had been beaten, starved, strung up by their feet and forced to eat vomit and feces.

Doctors had said the children were extremely malnourished, with one 19-year-old daughter weighing 56 pounds.

"I'm still having nightmares and flashbacks," said Marlon Boddie, 29. "He don't need no mercy. He don't need no type of mercy. He knew what he was doing."

Muhummed — whose given name was Richard Boddie — denied the charges and blamed one of his wives for the alleged abuse. He was a convert to the Muslim faith, which he said gave him the right to have multiple wives.

"They need to adjust their lives as they see fit and hope and pray God has mercy on them," he said of his children. He also told the court that he accepted he may have made mistakes as a father.

He was arrested in 1999 after one of his wives slipped a 13-page letter to a postal service worker describing the abuse.

Another wife, Marva Barfield, agreed to plead guilty to one count of child endangerment and testified against Muhummed. She will likely be sentenced to time served, Deputy District Attorney Julie Baldwin said.

Sentencing came nearly a decade after Muhummed's arrest. His trial followed nine years of delays in which he represented himself and changed lawyers multiple times. Earlier Friday, he sought to have his attorney removed and filed a motion for a new trial, claiming he had new evidence to help clear his name, but the judge denied the motions.

The way I see it is that the Afghan diplomat husband believes it was his right to beat up his wife and he gets that belief from being a Muslim.

Exactly what I was going to say. Umm, except the Fred West bit, I don't know who that is. Wife-beating and murder happens in all cultures and religions. But I understand keda's point that Islam seems to condone this practice. I would argue that portions of the Christian bible and Jewish Torah also could be interpreted this way, too. Maybe even the Jains and the Hindus have certain admonishments as well. Doubt that the Bhodisvata condoned it though, which is why this never happens here

Infidels also burn, rape, torture and behead, and we also know not every muslim should have been choked at birth, but in respect to the above newsworthy items I believe the ideology of islam lent a hand in upbringing, teaching and enforced belief in superiority of the male over their women.

Fred West was a serial killer, and I may be wrong but there is no evidence that any of the above got their kicks by searching out strangers to torture or murder.

PIZZA chain Domino’s has been slammed for serving only halal meat at one of its takeaways.

Bosses claim the food prepared in accordance with Islamic beliefs is a hit with the local ethnic population.



But some customers are furious that classics like a Hawaiian with pineapple and ham — a pork product so off the new menu — are no longer available.

Those who don’t want halal food are being directed to a regular Domino’s two miles away.

Domino’s said the takeaway in Hall Green, Birmingham — the first branch to sell only halal meat — “accommodates” the local Muslim population.

But hospital worker Chris Yates, 29, was shocked to be told he could not order his regular Meteor pizza.

It comes topped with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, ground beef and smoky bacon.

Chris, of Moseley, said: “It’s a disgrace. I appreciate having it as an option but to have it totally halal is not on. I’m all for racial and religious tolerance but this is intolerant to my beliefs and discriminates against me.”

Punter Peter Merholz, 38, of Hall Green, added: “This is a global chain isolating Western values and choice. It’s alienating people and it’s not on.”

The branch’s new menu includes halal spicy beef sausage, roast and tandoori chicken, halal pepperoni and cured turkey.

A side note: in Britain, why is that when a Pakistani or a Kurd or some other swarthy Johnny-foreigner type kills his wife, it's always an 'honour killing' but if a white guy does it, it's 'domestic violence'? One is a killing, the other is only violence; one foregrounds and makes clear the absurdity of the murderer's ideas of 'honour', the other is 'domestic', small scale, don't-poke-your-nose-in, have-a-cup-a-tea?
