Pakistan - Suicide attack kills at least 50 at arms factory

Suicide attack kills at least 50 at Pakistan arms factory

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Two suicide bombers blew themselves up near the gates of a military arms factory in Pakistan on Thursday, killing more than 50 people and wounding more than 70, police said.

The factory attack in Wah came two days after a blast at a hospital in Dera Ismail Khan, pictured above.

The bombers struck outside a factory in Wah, between the town of Taxila and Rawalpindi, about 18 miles (30 km) outside of Islamabad, police said.

The attack took place during shift change at one of several factories that employ several thousand people.

Police cordoned off the area and kept reporters at bay.

It was the second deadly suicide attack in Pakistan since President Pervez Musharraf resigned Monday.

On Tuesday, a suicide bomber detonated explosives near the emergency entrance to a hospital in the Dera Ismail Khan district, killing 29 and wounding another 35. The Taliban, claimed responsibility for that attack.

The act of picking Musharraf's successor has taken a back seat as the two political parties that lead the ruling coalition wrangle over restoring judges that Musharraf fired.

Pakistani newspapers and bloggers have urged the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) to reconcile their differences and tackle the country's more pressing concerns: the economy and terrorism.

Pakistani security forces have been battling Islamic militants in the country's tribal regions that border Afghanistan. Clashes since late June have killed dozens. And militants have vowed to retaliate.
